Testing droplinks

Featured Replies

I've got an irritating clunk on the left front wheel when going over lumps at low speed. After reading a few threads here the droplink is high on my list of possible problems.

Is there a good way to test if they are worn without replacing them to see if that helps?

thanks

get her into a garage that does free wheel alignment checks and when its up in air don't ask just go and have a look yourself

will i be able to move them by hand if they are worn, or will i need a big lever to give them a tweak?

Sometimes they look a1 condition - and still rattle! I normally wait till they are pretty bad then you can tell which - still replace as a pair obviously.

I had a Lancia which had rose jointed droplinks - 3k miles or less and needed replacing!

cheap quick easy = replace  wont do any harm

presume to replace it's just a case of unbolting the old and bolting on the new?

any idea if these are any good - seem a good price (£11ish plus p+p per side)

To test them vehicle need to be on wheels. If you lift it then you put pressure on them and its really hard to diagnose them. To replace you need removeing both nuts. Get yourself vise-grips just in case if all nuts will be fronzen and ball-joint decide to spin. Griner with cutting wheel is helpful as well if you get stuck.

In general - 30min to do them both - even at home conditions.
