Hi all,

The airbag warning light wont go out on my 2006 fabia vrs.

after scanning with VCDS, the following code is brought up:

00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95)

32-10 - Resistance too High - Intermittent

After a few searches on the forum, it seems a fairly common problem & can usually be sorted by giving the wires under the seat a bit of a wiggle...

However, I cant find the wires under the seat! When the seats are slid right to the front & I look from the back, I can see no wires or electrical connectors coming from the floor, or anywhere on the seat (it has non-standard leather seats - from seat surgeons I think)

Am I just being really thick?

Is this code not for the steering wheel air bag?

Yes, that's the drivers airbag in the wheel. More than likely wants a contact ring behind the wheel

Looking in the Haynes book of lies, it doesn't seem too bad of a job to change the slip ring, so where would be the best place to buy a replacement part?

Steering wheel off, column shrouds off and it unclips from the stalks.

I had to replace the slip ring on my lupo after I busted it when retro fitting cruise control to it so I can personally vouch for the fact that the slip ring is not a cheap part.. The lupo ones are about £120 and it an almighty ball ache to get the airbag off too until you know the technique for releasing the spring clips.. Good luck, recommend disconnecting the battery before you start too.

Lupo one would be the type that screws into the back of the steering wheel with three screws isn't it?

Took a trip to my local dealer, ordered a slip ring (only £62 inc vat - so not *too* bad)

Just need to wait for it to arrive & then spend a few hours swearing at the car
