Monte Carlo running on 16" Audi Speedlines for winter

Featured Replies

Just thought I'd share these - I'm happy with them

Audi Speedline 16" ET31, giving a 20mm wider track than standard, so they fill the arches out much better

Tyres are Hankook W310 205/45/16 - will report back when the temperature drops

Does the job. I'm tempted to pop to Halfords and go for some of their cheapo alloy wheels with tyres, bung them on our Monte for winter. Doesn't matter if they get damaged, just not sure about the tyres.

the wheels look very good on the monte B) :p to good to be winter wheels

As long as you don't change into a coock ;)

That actually looks ace mate! Good choice

Just be sure to inform your insurers, as they're non-standard.

I forgot to lay odds on how long it would be before that came out - thanks

They were standard on an Audi TT B)

Yeah but Brimma, some folk don’t know how insurers operate now.

They take your money, you think you are insured, then something unfortunate happens. Then the loss adjuster arrives and says “thats non-standard mate, they are undeclared options, policy invalidated, bye”. You find yourself with no car, no brass, and you are an untouchable now for insurers. This happened to a friend who totalled his corsa and had undeclared Halfords alloys. He lost a car worth £4000 and got nothing.

My insurer got told about all options, all are recorded in writing on the policy, thats climate/cruise/Bluetooth/MFSW/Sunglasses holder(!) and 2-tone alloys. I explained that all VRS’s had the same pattern alloys, it was just the finish that differed, but they said if it was a cost option then it was a departure from standard spec. They got really shirty about these, passing me up the chain through supervisors to managers, before finally agreeing not to up-charge or decline.

P.S. Looks good!

told you they would fit ;)

You did, and you were right - gives it a cracking stance now with the extra 10mm offset

Yes definitely always always notify insurers of any modification, no matter how insignificant it seems, but especially wheels/exhaust etc.

Even in a 5mph shunt it's standard practice sadly for the car-in-front to claim whiplash and all that rubbish, reckon of £4k for that alone. If were a serious crash with fault apportioned..., well you get the picture :S

Strangely enough, I do

be careful you use the correct bolts if u do buiy aftermarket alloys. the bolts for oem wheels and aftermarket wheels are different. check if they fit the radius or taper seating bolts.

Thanks for the advice fella.

Needs lowering....... :p

Why am I getting deja vu? :wonder:

So when I purchased my elegance I specced satnav, curve projectors esp plus rear tints b pillar back so do I have to tell the insurers about these ?

No, as they're not modifications (i.e. aftermarket). But conversely if you don't, and the car was a total loss and the cover would provide a brand-new replacement (usually in the first year), the replacement wouldn't have them either.

It would be very unlikley to have any impact on premium so best to declare.

Next insurance I'll declare

I too thought you only needed to declare aftermarket modifications. This has been my experience for decades to date.

But I asked my insurance company to define what THEY class as a modification. They told me it is also any cost-option that is fitted.

This is why we had such a long conversation about the wheels. Explaining that they were simply standard VRS wheels that were dark chrome had little impact. They passed me up their management chain and told me that even though they were factory fitted Skoda wheels, they were a cost-option, therefore they were a modification.

On my policy now I have a modifications box that reads;

Non-standard alloy wheels, Bluetooth and associated controls, Cruise control, Climate control, Glasses holder.

And yes, I too think its barmy, but there you are.

Apols for dragging the thread even further off-topic.

As above, this isn't about fecking insurance, it's about the wheels
