I think I'll Stop Now

Featured Replies

At my last MOT a few months ago, I got an advisory about corrosion on front discs, but did nothing about it. Last week I replaced a pair of tyres and rotated wheels around, (new ones on front) I had chance to look at the inner surface of discs.

The outer (looking through the wheel) looked perfectly OK, however, I think I can see why the advisory was given. :o

So New discs and pads were ordered.

The discs are the same Diameter as the old ones (288mm), just slotted. (EBC Ultimax USR 818)

Fitted Today :D

The disc on the other side (O/S) was just as bad.

I didn't see the point of taking a pic when that one was fitted.

Now it's cold and wintry, I think these will help me stop too!

Yep, it's only 3 bolts and a screw per wheel. I'll be bedding them in tomorrow on the way to Whitby.

I'm not sure, the bill/invoice is sent separately. I got them directly from EBC (Freeman Automotive). Ordered on Wednesday evening and they arrived 4 pm Friday.

Do the discs stay black?

Oooooooo makes me want to touch my self

The discs have a black protective coating (paint). When you use the brakes the areas were the pad touches, it rubs off (the bedding-in compound helps too).

If it was Summer I would have given the callipers a paint. As it was 6°C outside I didn't. It was cold, but I think I'm getting too used to a nice steam heated workshop at work. :p

What about the parts the pads dont touch? It would stay black then? Would that stop them rusting in the usual areas?

A pic they are run in would be great :)

It will slow down the unswept areas rusting a bit, I've got ATEs on my wifes car - they have been coated with a "wear off" anti rust coating for some years now. Some of the reason for brake disc makers coating or painting them will be to avoid the need to "wash" off the anti-rusting protection that was sprayed on after manufacture - the original oily stuff would be applied to keep them looking like new until they were fitted to the car.

throw them ebc brake pad over the hedge and get yourself some genuine skoda pads, the ebc pads are total dung. they dont work that great when cold and then the crumble when over heated. genuine ones don't do this

Never had any problems when fitted to my Metro, our Citroen AX or my dads Subaru Impreza and I've got green pads and EBC discs all round.

I have had genuine Skoda pads de-laminate on our other Fabia.

Question for those in the know - mine is 1.4TDI -bit less power than A vRS ,but the stoping power of the brakes sems to be a bit low & fady . What would be involved in upping my discs to these -e.g ,would I have to replace callipers. Only asking as my discs are getting close to limit ,not of of now ,but in couple of yers time .

Carrier, caliper, disks, pads, (hoses?), hubs off a vrs or 2.0 I believe.

If you want to fit the bigger 288mm discs that a vRS and 2.0l has then as Trigger says, you will need to replace a lot of things. Your best bet and easiest thing to do is fit uprated discs and pads for your car. EBC make those slotted ones for your 256mm diameter discs.

Even after a few days, these new brakes seam a lot better than what I had, although looking at what I had it's not surprising.

Seconded.

EBC green stuffs have never let me/family/friends down. Fitted to all sorts of everything car wise too.
