Featured Replies

Anbody know what RPM they have at 70 & 80 MPH in either 5 or 6 speed?

Might be good to mention what engine as the gearboxes ae all geared differently depending on the engine fitted.

Sorry - I'm looking at either a 2.0 CR 140 6 speed or 1.6CR 5 speed Greenline 2

Cant get me head around moving from driving 6 speed vehicle to a 5 speed.

Its been mentioned that the 5 speed in the greenline 2 has a higher ratio to aid economy ?

Thanks

I think the 1.6cr 5spd at 70mph is around 2000rpm.

Not sure of the 6spd. I know mine does a little under that in 6th so will probably be about the same so around 1800rpm ish.

And yes you are right. The Greenline has different ratios to compensate slightly for not having a 6th.

Not sure how this much is going to help. I have the Greenline II estate. I came from a Volvo S60 D5 with 6 gears (172bhp IIRC).

Apart from the first few times out of habit grabbing for sixth (not because it needs it) I have had no issues at all. I regularly drive on the motorway and do not feel that not having that last gear hinders me.

We can give you all the info but ultimately I was pleasantly surprised with the performance and even more impressed with the reduction of BIK and economy!!

I will try and remember to take note on my drive home tonight and let you know on the RPM assuming the M1 is compliant.

The greenline has very long gearing to help economy and emissions, so I expect 5th in the greenline to be even lower reving than 6th in the non greenline model.

My dad has a greenline 5 speed Fabia, and in town the gearing is so long that you can only use 1st, 2nd and 3rd on roads with a 30mph limit and 5th is useless below 50mph.

What MPG are you getting Turkish79?

Did a check for you this morning on the M1 - relatively light of traffic and reasonably flat.

6th @ 80mph - 2,100 rpm

6th @ 70mph - 1,800 rpm

Engine is 2.0 TDi CR 140

What MPG are you getting Turkish79?

I am currently getting 62.4 on motorway driving, steady driving mind you, car is only 3 weeks old and overall with the city driving included, 56.4.

This is from the MFD not using the brim to brim method.

Unfortunately M1 was not playing the game last night, only managed to get above 55 once and this morning the snow has thwarted my efforts to get your rev figures.

Cheers

Thanks Turkish79

That MPG seems ok considering the car is so new. The post above your shows RPM for the 2.0CR 6 speed, it would interesting to do a comparison. Please drive carefuly in the snow!

Thanks

No problem, journey to work was very frustrating this morning, averaged only 7mph!!

Auto start/stop was working overtime this morning and I can now see the benefit, must of saved loads of fuel sitting in traffic!

Have to say, the 16" low rolling resistance tyres certainly made negotiating the snow/slushy hilly roads interesting :o

Okay then

Managed it tonight

Approx. 2100rpm at 70mph

Approx. 2400rpm at 80mph

For info, redlines at 5000rpm

Hope this helps

It was very interesting to read the comments as it covers the questions and concerns that I am having in my thread titled 'Superb Greenline Estate'. I am now veering toward the Greenline knowing that the gear ratios are different

The 6th gear fitted to the current shape Passat 1.6Tdi equates to around 1,800rpm at 70mph, comparing to around 2,100rpm in my Superb Greenline in 5th at the same speed. The Passat is a little quieter, but requires more gearchanges than the Superb.

still hammering down the best price!

Does anybody have the email address for every dealer in the UK? - that would make things really easy :giggle: :giggle:

  • 5 weeks later...

Have you tried the "DTD" (drivethedeal.com)? They help you do the comparison. Normally 700 to 1000 cheaper than the OTR price + 0%VAT offer.

I'm in Scotland (DTD don't do free delivery to Scotland and I prefer a low mileage when I get a new car) so try to get my local dealers match the price as close as possible.
