Hmm it hides the demist switch, but suppose if you need it you turn it on before the stereo and it turns itself off after about 20 mins anyway (adjustable with VCDS).

There's a few who have upgraded speakers. Main issue is mounting depth due to the window runner being directly behind the speaker. Max is about 60mm. If doing a sub, you might want a 5 channel amp or a 4 channel (with 2 bridged for the sub) and probably easier to do it all at the same time. An amp will deliver far better quality from the speakers than your headunit can alone. Been looking at amps on ebay but all are either cheap junk (100,000 watts etc lol) or go for far more than I'd be willing to pay :( Won one for £60 delivered and it never arrived :'(

Planning on swapping speakers for Alpine SXE1750s (only because I already have them as they're cheap, from what I've read since probably best not recommended unless price is a concern). At the same time, if possible, planning on putting a sheet of dynamat on the outer door skin behind the speaker, and on the metal of the door carrier where the speaker fixes to.

hi mate thanks for the advice and yeah ive got a sub with amp built in its a cheap halfords on but cost me 30 pounds brand new sealed in the box its a 12inch edge sub with built in amp but was thinking of jut buying a whole new half decent set up

also just to adress the demist btton problem its funny you mention that i made a vid the moment i fitted it becuase i fort the same thing but if you pres the button once it folds down to press the button and if you hold the button it goes down completly so thats not a problem alpine thought this through lol heres the link to the vid i done the morning after fitting

plus my rear windows tinted 100% so demisters are usless to me lol

even tho ive just fitted this iv just saw some other type of ones you take the coin tray out and its just like a screen that fits there but i cant find the right model and size it looks nie and neat and tidy tho you knwo what i mean ?

Fitting new speakers isn't too difficult. You need to get some adaptors for the doors an you will need 6.5" components as there is also tweeters behind the triangular piece of plastic at the edge of the window. I have used a speaker adaptor from the Golf MK4 which I bought on Ebay which works fine but it's not ideal, the speaker is currently as near as damn it touching the door card so I'm going to be making some MDF mounts instead which will also improve the sound as it absorbs vibration better. So, in summary, it isn't difficult. Get yourself some new door card clips just incase as they break easily, ideally get some MDF and use a jigsaw to make yourself some speaker mounts. The old speakers will need to be drilled out with a 7mm drill as they are rivetted in.

I have a set of Pioneers TS171ci components in the front and a Kicker 10" shallow mount sub in the boot all run from a Genesis Profile Four amp mounted in the glovebox. My headunit is a Parrot Asteroid and i'm really pleased with the end result. I have also used quite a bit of sound deadening though, especially in the boot!

I just added a decent jvc headunit then the cheaper 10inch edge sub. Wack down the bass on the stardard door speakers, treble up and turn the sub up a bit more to make up for it. Sounds brilliant, thats coming from an audio nut. I dont know why everyone spends so much on door speakers when its not needed.

What if it was mounted in the cubby hole slot? I know the cubby hole would then be un-accessible, but you could still put your ipod/phone in without it sliding out and the vents and rear screen button might be more accessible.

I did do that at first mate but looked out of place

I am trying to avoid changing them really but if I'm putting sub in and amp and head unit I may aswell do the door card ones but might just try the sub and amp fitted first and if it sounds asif I need them I will have to but who knows what's in the pipe lines for the future lol thanks for the advice tho

The Golf Mk4 adapter sets it off by about 38mm. Here's some premade MDF rings http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230709096860?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 so in that case 2x 18mm thick 177mm ext 145mm int (6 1/2") would probably be what's needed.

Agreed, sounds quite impressive, but there's always room for improvement :D
