Is this a good deal?

Featured Replies

Good morning guys.

First off, I have been offered a K04 Turbo, oil and water pipes, TIP, Injectors and Manifold as a SWAP for my TD Pro Race 1.2 Rims.

Ive asked him what miles and age the kit has and what car its off, just waiting to hear back.

Now what I would like to know is, is it a good deal? provided the kit is all good.

Now to the OTHER things.

I have FINALLY grown a pair and decided that all the miles I am doing is 1: very expensive in my Octavia vRS 2: Killing her! SO I have decided to get another car.

In a few hours Ill be off to Reading to see another member on here to look at his mk1 Fabia vRS. looks and sounds like a really neet and tidy car thats std. If its all he says it is I will prob be having it off him, cant wait!

The Fabia will only get my Octavia vRS brake setup and pos a RARB. THATS IT! (Ide like to keep the pair Ive just grown :giggle: )

This allows me to play around with the Octavia :giggle::thumbup:

My plan was/is to basically buy a LCR and run it for a week or so and put plenty of miles on it to make sure its perfect. then Strip it! sell all the parts I dont want/Need and basically put the Engine and Gearbox in the Octavia. Basically swap everything over.

Or I could go for this stuff this lad is offering me and just K04 the AUQ lump thats in it now?

I dont want to go BT really as my plan is to try keep the car as std as pos using OE parts. The best parts from the mk4 Golf platform(with one or 2 added parts where VAG didnt make one). I dont want over 300bhp, 250+ is a nice amount eventually, but to start I will just be puting the std BAM kit in and leaving the std VAG map on it. as I said before, the best from all cars but still in effect, std.

Result:

I have or will have these things for sale:

1 set: Black 17" Spiders(7x17 5x100 et35) with NEW Nankang Snow SV-2 tyres(205 50 17 93V XL) £580 collected [avail now]

Octavia vRS 5 speed EHA iirc Gearbox with Quaife LSD [iF I decide to BAM the Octavia it will be avail some time in the spring]

MINT drivers and Passengers seats [i will have to see what the cost will be to get the R32 seats done to match the vRS interior]

S3 Steering Rack [again depends if I am going to BAM the car or just get the K04 kit]

Imposible Performance Stage 1 Remapped ECU with CEL mapped out(perfect for decat) Cruise Controle Enabled (if you have the kit in) and Immo Removed(will slot in any mk1 vRS and work) £220 posted [this is a bril map, the best Ive had really smooth and no lag at all. Pulls well] This map is also very good on fuel, I used it in my car as the custom map ECU I have is not as good on the juice. Ive had the Immo removed to sell on.

With your listed total expenses you could buy an awful lot of fuel for the Octavia VRS, say about 18+ months worth??

However you have self-justified your intentions, so wish you the very best of good-luck, with your new venture.

Sounds like a fun project. Put me down for that steering rack if you do it :-)

Don't forget you will need a new down-pipe and the KO4 setup uses an EGT sensor on it!

Sounds like a good deal tbh, as long as it's all good condition. You'll need an S3 MAF too.

I'd fit this rather than buy a LCR to strip.

Steve

Sounds good mate, just check there's not play in the turbo shaft before you buy it. Your engine would have a different compression ratio to a BAM too but if you get it remapped to 250ish you could get a custom map to take that into account.

With the higher compression of the AUQ (9.5:1) you'll get great spool up, top end might suffer slightly (compared to the 8.9:1 of the BAM).

But it will be a VERY nice setup.

Steve

I would just buy a k04-001 bolt on upgrade 265 bhp otherwise its a lot of arse ache for not a lot extra imo

Talk later ;-)

imho an O2M with standard diff would be a big degrade over an O2J with ATB fitted.

Instead of Bam lump why not just put a set of pistons in your engine, surly that will be a cheaper option

You say 250 is enough :D

OK

Ive been chatting to Missingmyvrs today and I am once again unsure as to what to do lol, on the up side I have got the Fabia vRS. OMG I love it!!!! for zipping around town and that its ace, very nippy. The octavia is not as sharp at low RPM and is a more lathargic drive around town but the Fabia is very very nippy lol. Also cant get over the MPG, indicated 49.8 on drive back from Reading to Cardiff with some town driving to pay the GF back for taking me to see the car. Thats not a gentle cruise neither lol cant wait to see what she does on the daily drive.

LOL,

I know what you mean mate but tbh, there is no loss. Ive spent the money on it so I write it off. The car wont cost me much at all just some basic cover. Gonna keep it for this next year and only do minor things to get it back up to scratch. stripping and cleaning. Then see how things go. If the finances work out as they should then I should be good to keep it and get Married and that. IF not then Ill strip her and sell the parts. As Ive said before I cant/wont sell her as a car. plus more money in MODS than Illl get for the car, let alone the std parts thats on her.

The good side is tho I dont need to keep parts as spares just in case or have sets of wheels for winter n summer. Ill be going thru everything as soon aas I can to see what is needed for real and whats not. I will prob sell my front seats out of it as not needed to keep the car on the road.

As for the Fabia, I am not touching it other than a RARB and spiders for summer. Thats it, I will see if it has been mapped tho as it does seem too pokey for std mind Ive never driven one. Hope its std.

Personally I would keep the VRS and get it gassed. more economical than the fabia and more fun

hybrid gets my vote

Like the pic :-) I always regretted never being able to afford a mk1 Furb VRS but the Octy could still be very economical for a 1.8 turbo engine. The Furbs also feel a lot quicker than they really are coz of the torque. Least you can rack up the mileage on the Furb and keep the Octy as a weekend toy

Very true, I normally get 38 mpg on my 14 miles commute, can push into the early 40's if I try. I once had a standard Furby follow me along the M4, I took off down the slip road not even trying and he said he was thrashing his to keep up. They do have a nice bit of low down grunt though, but defo feel faster than they are.

Nice pair you got there Billy, can't see you keeping the furby standard though lol

Trust me, it's standard. ;)

When Mike (friend and previous owner) first had this, I had an Ibiza TDI Sport 130.

Gearing is different with those but the way the power is before and after they've been mapped, isn't - they both tail off the same above 3k in standard form compared to when mapped.

I drove both at the time, and the Ibiza definitely had more poke once mapped compared to itself and the Fabia as you took it. :)

lol, Yea I know what you mean now about the 3k+ drop off, it goes flat but tbh I dont care as its still ACE.

Love the car to bits, just needs to be cleaned again now. cant wait to get it detailed. gonna rectify the small things wrong and put the Octavia vRS Brakes on it and the spiders. then a rear ARB if one pops up at a good price.

Am getting 12+ mpl at the mo. its bril for the work runs and driving up n down the country, I even finnished work on 31st morning and drove down to Falmouth to spend the day with the GF, I then drove home at 0100 and loved every min of the drive home, the car does best at 70 as slower makes the car labour more in 6th.

My goal is to get 550+ mile from a tank. managed 512 from 42 l last fill.

I found ignoring the cruise and wafting along at between 65 to 70 got 60mpg - it only labours if you let it, even at those slightly lower speeds.

Get it mapped and it will rev nicely past 4k with more guts right the way through - economy is still good too, so do it, you won't regret it.

Bought a 53 plate Fabia 1.4 TDI estate today as a stop gap - beginning to feel like the Hotel California, the Fabia. ;)

is this still the plan? sounds exactly like what i plan on doing!!

p.s first dibs on the lsd box.

he will not be getting rid now trust me lol

there is one on edition 38 at the moment

yeah thanks mate, seen the one on 38 but haven't got the funds handy at the mo, spring would of been ideal.
