DSG Manual Mode

Featured Replies

As i'm sure you all know, when you use manual mode with the dsg 'box, the way you change up or down is counter-intuitive. Why did they make it so you change up by pushing the stick forwards? Could you re-program it, to swap them round??

Cheers

Not seen anything in VCDS to change them around, but you could possibly physically change the wires around to give the same results?

True, i'll take a look tomorrow

I wouldnt mess with wires for that

Retro fit a flappy paddle MFSW instead. I never use the lever other than to move across to manual now.

I suppose this depends on the logic you apply.

If you want to make progress i.e go forward you push the lever forward

If you want to make faster progress you push the lever forward again

If you want a higher number gear you push forwards through the numbers

If you want to slow down you push the lever backwards

or you want to select a lower number gear going back down the gearbox you push the lever backwards

In most manual gearboxes the logic only makes sense as most manufacturers follow a standard configuration. Watch the episode of Top Gear where James May drives a Mercedes Cosworth for an example of why you think you should push the lever forward to select 1st gear and Mercedes think this is wrong.

I've been thinking of this issue with my DSG and want to switch the 'up' and 'down' i.e. pull back to change up.

Is this possible with VCDS? I know Gizmo68 suggests he hasn't seen anything; but is trhis definitive?

PS> I do have flappy paddles on my Yeti but am thinking also of my wife's Roomster.

I don't have a Superb, so can't comment.
