SW drive out around Exmoor, Somerset

Featured Replies

Date TBC but could be combined with next WSM meet, whenever that is.

Ran an excellent route with Pistonheads today that I hope to replicate with Briskoda.

This is the route. Feel free to comment / fettle with it and re-link :) I promise this is 60 miles of really nice roads.

Example of one bit of road that could be factored in. :)

I need your help finding out how you got down to Simonsbath from Lynmouth, and where that carpark everyone but me ended up today :D My google map link route above goes on an extended bit to the west, but I went straight down from Lynmouth to Simonsbath which was shorter, but went over some proper Exmoor. :)

Yeh no worries, we did that stretch of road pictured above too

I'll post in here to register my interest, let us know when a date is finalised.

cool. This is the draft date then. I know some "moor" ;) routes further south but bit of a trek given so many will have come from up north.

I could be tempted by this

Yup - You're the guy with the yellow S3 then? :D I had some grip at the last hoon unlike the time you were following me in the rain. Was much more enjoyable and a LOT less dangerous....

I always wanted an S3, but after you told me how much fuel you used for that PH run, I will keep my fabia thanks haha. I had loads of grip that day but I did have new CSC3's on. Roll on this next meet!

I live near Exmoor and sometime drive on those roads but yeah, I would highly recommend anyone who fancy a shot on this road, such a great road.

The A396 + Hangman's Hill is a great road too, from Minehead to Tiverton or vice versa. This is a roughly 30 miles road iirc, haven't been down on it recently.

My favourite road in the south-west would probably have to be the A377 because I drive that road often, about 40 miles if you're doing the full A377 but the best parts are Torrington/Barnstaple to Credition (or other way round).

I have only ever done the A396 from Minehead to Dulverton. Nice road. Where, though, is Hangman's Hill? :wonder:

Hangman's Hill is about a 2-mile single lane with a deep S-bend in the middle, the rest are pretty straight. I've never really had much of a problem with traffic down that road.

From Dulverton, I think you need to take the south-bound B3222(?) road joining onto the A396 then there's a right turn going over the bridge (forgot the name of the bridge but before that there's a couple houses nicely presented both side of the road). Stick on that road, Hamsomething Hill until you see a left bend with the sign-post saying Stoodleigh, and this is Hangman's Hill. Nothing fancy but I like the road :giggle:

You could re-join the A396 after or stick on these roads all the way to Tiverton, the miles is probably roughly the same but won't be as fast as the A396. B)
