woke up to find both windows down?

Featured Replies

Didn't use my car yesterday but otherwise get's used everyday.

I woke up this morning to find both windows are down fully and the inside soaking.

Also struggled to start the car as if battery was low.

(couldn't use the search as I'm using my phone at the moment)

Anyone??

Check to see how the drivers door lock feels, tight? Sticking?

Yep, had this with my old Polo.

The lock barrel was gummed up with years worth of dirt, and the pins in the barrel got stuck in the unlock position. The slightest movement would mean it would unlock.

Just been out to check and it's pretty sticky.

Turn it either way and it just stays there.

How do I cure it??

Common fault with the Octavia I, try looking on their forum.

I found this guide pretty helpful when I did the lock on my Polo.

The process of removing the handle is different, but the once you're down to the lock it's the same.

One of mine was broken like in the link, and the other was just jammed up with dirt. A good clean and it was good as new. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Right, I've been out in the pi55ing down :rain: , took the barrel out and was in pretty good nick but all gunged up around the spring, so I gave it a good clean with brake cleaner, soaked in WD40 then re-greased it all.

Now the key turns it as good as new and springs back when turned.

Hope this has solved the problem?? Will it?

There's a reason I asked ;)

Should be good now, it not it could be the catch itself. It see how you get on.

Hope it will be fine, my car couldn't hold any more water.

Fabla do you use your key to unlock the car at all? Just wondering how a barrel gets all mucked up if its not getting used. The barrel is sealed unless a key is inserted?

Assume from your location that you've had plenty of rain.

This happened with our Fabia about 6 years ago, and included the central locking unlocking, which was a worry!

Problem was the electrical plug by NS front door which filled with water.

Suggest drying it out & plenty of WD40 or ACF50

Do this every year ( when I remember ) & it seems to work.

No I don't use the key at all!

But when I took the barrel out the return spring in the barrel was all gunged up as it's open to it's surroundings and not so much sealed.

I live just on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, you could say it's a bit wet!

It was bucketing down last night and I couldn't bloody sleep because I kept looking out the window to see if my car windows were still up!!

They've stayed up anyway. For now :S

I always used to zap my locks on my fiesta with WD40 as it wasn't central locking but with this car I haven't bothered, but will from now on.

As its clean mate I would personally use a good spray of white grease, great stuff for lock barrels and will coat the gubbings with grease rather than a thin coat of wd40 which will be good for cleaning the gubbings but not for keeping them greased up if your with me.

Have done mate, plenty of grease has been added, just used the WD40 to free everything up.
