Interior light not working from drivers door...

Featured Replies

My interior (courtesy) light doesn't come on when the drivers door is opened.

It works from the passenger door.

Also the buzzer to let me know that I've left the side/headlights on works when the drivers door is opened so the switch is working.

There are only 2 wires going to the switch so I'm figuring that the fault must lie somewhere further up the system but I've no idea as the what the system comprises of.

Is there a delay relay in the circuit to allow the light to stay on longer?

Thanks in advance.

Thats odd, the switch on the door is wired in parallel to the one on the passenger door. It comes through a little red 2 pin connector behind the plastic kick panel at the base of the a pillar on the left hand side, goes down the left hand side to the passenger door first, then goes under the front seats along with the hand brake warning light switch wiring the to the drivers door. Most of them don't have a delay relay, only the later ones and the L&K models iirc, if it has one it is tucked up above the interior light and is a little module that fits in line with the wiring connector to the switch. I can't see any reason why it would work with one side and not the other due to them being wired in parallel especially as you've proved that the switch works...

Unless of course it's wired different on the cars with central locking? Does yours have central locking?

Thanks for the reply.

No it's a basic model, no central locking. It's good to know where the wiring runs though as I can now do some diagnostic work.

First will be to check for the delay relay. Incidentally, the handbrake warning light doesn't work either... Could be related if the loom is damaged I guess.

I have a similar prob on my 98 'S' 1.3 pickup. The buzzer works on both doors but the light only comes on when in the 'on' position (that sounds stupid but you know what I mean)! I tried a new light unit but still the same!!??

I haven't had a chance to look at this again yet. I'm planning on looking closer at it when I wire up the heated seats so hopefully not too long as it's bloody freezing at the moment!

I'll let you know if I find the cause.
