1.8T engine differences

Featured Replies

Does anyone know what differences there are between the 1.8T engines with regards to outputs?

I have the 1.8T in the 4x4 which is 150bhp. The VRS is 180bhp, Seat Leon and Audi TT/S3 are 120 or 225bhp.

What are the differences the turn a 150bhp engine into a 225bhp engine? is it a different turbo, intercooler, air box, exhaust or ECU setup?

I'm just asking as I'm looking at turning my 4x4 into something of a street sleeper. 4x4 to handle the power but standard exterior so no-one is the wiser?

Could I just change some internals to get the power, or is it just better and easier to find a 225 engine and start from there?

easyiest option is swap engine from a 225 car ;-)

boomsly has one for sale now for 1k

This has been done to death recently...as Clive said swap the whole engine over, its the most straightforward way, TrevorB33 did this in his 1.8T L&K last year.

Otherwise you will have to change loads of seperate things like turbo, manifold, downpipe, injectors, intake pipe + MAF, 2nd intercooler (or front mount), pistons, engine map to get an AUQ engine with all the BAM engine bits.

Difference between the 150 and 180 is just the turbo (K03S instead of K03) and the map, the earlier 150 engines had no VVT and a large port head too, some were cable throttle instead of drive by wire.

Just get a stage 1 remap on your car. Should give you about 200bhp, & will transform it.

The ARX engine, as found in the 4x4 has a K03S

The only difference is the map. The ARX re-maps to same 200-210 bhp range as other engines.

A BAM swap and remap is the easiest way to achieve 250+bhp.

A fair number of BAM engined cars coming to end of their life these days, so bargains to be found. Lots of Golf owners are busy doing these conversions, so you'll have to be quick to snap the bargains up.

Thanks guys, will have to look at either swapping the engine, or just remapping the ECU.

Where's the best place to get a remap and are there any other suggested mods at the same time?

Induction kit? Exhaust? Dump valve?

Where to start on a 4x4 1.8T Octavia

Induction kit = save your $

Exhaust = save your $

Dump value = no

Forge 007, Compbrake, etc Diverter Valve

The S3/LCR (Seat Leon Cupra R) stock diverter valves are more reliable, and a cheaper than the stock ARX diverter valve as a budget option.

Forge 007 ??

Compbrake??

Diverter valve?? :S

WTF is a diverter valve? never mind an S3/LCR stock diverter valve.

A guess would be the thing that you would replace with a dump valve and an S3 is an Audi S3? but LCR, Forge 007 and compbrake, not sure at all ? :S

People should just leave cars alone.
