A strange thing happened on the way home........

Featured Replies

I have an iPhone 4 which auto-connects to the Bolero when I get in the car.

I happily drive about the Lake District listening to the radio until the iPhone receives an email upon which I receive an audible tone via the iPhone speaker and then the head unit decides to switch from Radio to Media and starts playing the tunes located on my iPhone! :dull:

What's all that about? :S

I'm not impressed  that I have to press the Radio button to get back to where I was and I have yet to find a short cut on the steering wheel controls to do so.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

Not rec'd a text message while driving yet, but I have taken MANY calls (hands free) and it has returned to whatever I was listening to before without any problems.

I will test out your hypothesis (OOOOO I just had that word pop into my head as I was typing.................spookyI will let you know Sandy.

Dunno if a text message has the same effect - it seems to be emails that do it :dull:

Mine does that with texts. I'm not an avid text-user so only get occasional texts, but it's certainly happened on 2 or 3 occasions. Must say that - much though the Yeti ticks many boxes as a whole for me - I'm not that impressed with the Columbus head unit's Satnav and associated BueTooth & media functions. There are too many instances of unstable or odd behaviour (for instance mine seems quite uncertain as to whether it's night or day sometimes, whatever the Maxidot settings)). It's got the feel of an unfinished or incompletely debugged product about it.

And the algorithms for route-finding and associated timings certainly are not properly debugged - often on a longer distance journey it will identify a sensible route but will indicate a ETA that's eg 50% pessimistic. Then mid-journey it's like it performs a recalculation and suddenly the ETA shows eg an hour earlier and much more plausible. And no, I wasn't travelling at 100mph (if only...).

It appears that if SWMBO sends a text via my iPhone it somehow switches the Bolero Radio to Media and plays songs from the iPhone!?

I think there is something in the settings which can stop this. Auto play BT or something like that.

you can change quite a few settings like the eta. Fast, medium or slow. I have it on slow for London, but fast for motorway use.

You can also change the program to be fastest, economical or shortest.

I have been using Columbus' for about 3 years now and in many ways prefer it to Tom Tom on the iPhone. I use it generally for 3-6 destinations a day. It doesn't suit everyone.

I have used an iPhone 3GS and now an iPhone 4S with my Bolero and have never had this happen with either texts or emails... peculiar indeed!
