Featured Replies

Hi guys, im looking at cheap full head helmets for castle coombe style track days

Prob only now and then if can sneak rides with friendly brisk folk like pete :) (group1ves)

Ive found 1 on ebay

http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=130543471096&kw=130543471096

I asked them and he said this

" That is not a stupid question at all! Sometimes car tracks differ from motorbike tracks - for track days on motorbikes helmets need an ACU gold and ECE2205 but some car ones want snell helmets which this is not!"

I have no idea what this talk is lol

Help :(

yeah that'd be fine.

True motorsport helmets need to pass different levels of safety checks than motorcycle helmets.

I've never heard of a trcak day wanting Snell (top level) accredited helmets.

All my track days have been done with motorbike helmets and the checks have only ever got as indepth as "is it on? and is it done up?"

Even that check is normally done through the windscreen in the pit lane!

You only need a full face one for trackdays if you're in an open-topped car. I would personally get one of those open faced ones for driving or passengering in a saloon, it's much more comfortable:

MSV circuits (Brands, Oulton, Snetterton etc) say you have to have a helmet conforming to certain requirements (SNELL, FIA etc.) but they never bother checking it closely. If you have an accident and the helmet isn't good enough then they've covered their a$$es by telling you it has to be to a certain standard.

Hi guys, im looking at cheap full head helmets

Cheap helmets are perfect for cheap heads, if you value your safety then don't go and buy the cheapest you can lay your hands on, also the single most important thing with a helmet is it's fit.... not sure if you can try helmets on over the internet yet ?? :giggle:

£60 mite not be so bad later....... Maybe

It was only a nose, but if its a waste of time id sooner watch from the side than risk having the air in my head escape iff things go boobies up lol

Not sure if MSA (motorsport) helmets still have a shelf life? you can buy some top spec helmets that are no longer legal to use in motorsport simply because of an upgraded standard that are perfect to use ..... but you still need to try one on, helmets like shoes vary in size, so if for example if you try a Bell helmet on and you get the correct size, this size may be different for another brand (I know it shouldn't but they DO)

Hedtec are solely distributed by the company that ran a couple of trackdays i did and were the "cheapest motorsport accredited helmets available"....apparently

Where I used to work we got a job lot of Sparco Club open faced helmets for £50 each, they were fine for our safety car drivers at MSA events so should be ok for track days. They don't make the same model anymore but do a similar one. Mind you that was 6 years ago now
