Snowflakes the size of pizzas started falling on our hillside at about 4.00 today - if it keeps up at this rate we could have 6-9 inches by morning.

Will be able to give the Goodyear 4 Seasons their first real test of t'winter in t'morning. And for those of you who go off road occasionally - the youtube clip shows part of my daily commute, the lane to my house, last summer. In snow it's a little more 'interesting'

No worries ... off road button pressed and let the car deal with the snow and ice downhill, and came back up an hour later no problem. Happy bunny. B)

Hi Steve

By eck it were rough up on`t tops last night and I got meeself into some bother.Me and our Yorkie loved it but some criticism from the bride and miss bossy boots.

Went up t t`Turnpike (1150ft)to celebrate Wondermans birthday and our 32nd anniversary. Picked up are young un and Hercules (rugby lad) from Sowerby (650ft) and headed uphill and overt moors up to 1400ft.Lanes full a snow and around 8 miles of Yeti heaven. Wonderwoman fairly chilled, are young un not happy as we had not gone valley route and arrived 10 mins late! Hercules thought it was great. Superb lights not one skid, managed to reverse to let big gritting farmer get past and negotiated some pretty steep up and downhill sections.Came back on main road and are lass asked if I had now got it out of me system?!!!.

M62 westbound was blocked/slow moving for 20miles + from Leeds(jacknifed lorries)all evening and some folk evidently 4 or 5 hours late home.

Proper winter weather!

3 nights up in`t lakes (Rydal) next week. Let it snow let it snow let it snow!!!!!

Cheers

Cheers to you too Peter ... looks like more snow on the way for Sunday night. Hope you're planning to post some 'photos from the Lakes. We're off to N. Yorks (Helmsley) for a wedding in a couple of weeks, and then driving out to Val D'Isere skiing again a couple of weeks after that. Let it snow - no worries.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news - we went out today in search of snow - plenty on the some of the higher 'hills' to walk through but nothing on tracks/roads unless you count a little bit of frost?

Temperatures so far this Winter hardly justify putting on he Vreds!

Have you seen the forecast for Sunday night?

No snow round here so far this winter season, however even with winters fitted there was no grip out on the roads this morning; been lots of rain then a sharp frost. May not have helped being out in the wife's Fabia TSI; just no weight to it.

The short trip to town and back kept the ASR/ESP systems a little busy :giggle: oh so were the council fixing bollards and street lighting flattened by vehicles obviously going a tad bit quickly for the conditions :S

TP

great pic

My biggest concern in these days of driving my SM with winter boots on, is no longer what my vehicle is capable of, but all the fools out there who still drive as if they were on dry Tarmac.

Was in snowy conditions in Glossop earlier in the week, driving gently along on the main (A) road when some stupid ****** in a Corsa shot across my bow at a cross roads, speed undiminished, all 4 wheels locked, and disappeared down the hill on the opposite side. Luckily for her it was a cross roads, not a T junction and I managed to stop - and no-one was coming the other way.

Gathered myself together and half a mile further on I narrowly avoided a head on meeting with a 61 Reg, BMW X5 that came round a fairly gentle corner towards me on my side of the road, and passed to my nearside, half on the narrow pavement, neatly modifying his offside as he rattled along the side of a very unforgiving stone wall. When I stopped to check he was alright, and the torrent of expletives had died down, he seemed genuinely amazed that his 20" ultra bling super low profile wheels & tyres that had cost him an extra £3.5K hadn't coped with the 5mm of snow on the road at (wait for it) 45mph (it was a 30 area!).

But it's a 4x4 he said. :giggle:

How sad!

Typical......

The X5 owner I pulled out of a ditch last winter said something very similar! :giggle:

My neighbour has an enormous Toyota Landcruiser which he hasn't used in the snow since he stuffed it into the dry stone wall on our hill last winter.

stuffed it into the dry stone wall

Brilliant phrase! I can see it now... ... ...

LOL. Me too...

Have you seen the forecast for Sunday night?

Just got back after visiting my sisters in Consett - smattering of snow on the hills nothing on the roads. Temp on the A69 got down to .5 degrees but no sign of a snow flake! Lake District was a balmy 5 degrees!

Tucked the car (Santa Expres) back in the garage with exactly 500 miles on the clock.

Unrelated: before we left for Consert this morning I pulled the car out of the garage. Then went in the house and gave my two year old Grandson a toy White Yeti (got it on eBay) and told him to go outside and see if he could see something similar outside. He was beside himself when he went round the back and saw the larger version on the drive - the look on his face was priceless!

Now go on sandy. Admit the yeti toy was actually for yourself? :)

Just wish I could find a muscovado one for myself...

I assume this is a joke?

Whilst domestic duties are of course less than exciting, I think for the majority of households with children they do actually count as a "proper reason". Heaven forbid we need to apply for your permission to use a vehicle in any particular fashion! :wonder:

And before you ask, I walk my kids to school. Just think it's a rather odd (pretentious maybe??!) comment.

Don't want to hijack the thread and go off topic, so I'll make this post and leave be.

Talking of parents driving kids to School. I pass several parents every day walking to work. Their children's School is a small private School in a village and no more than 600m walking distance. Every day kids pile into the very expensive cars of all types (but mainly 4wd). The parent (usually Mum's) drive past me on the way to School and I see them again a few minutes later pass me on their way home.

The School has it's own (cul-de-sac) lane on site which gets choc-a-bloc with the same parents seemingly far too important to give way to others and as previously stated, in a mad rush to get back home again. I would guess 20-30 parents do this every day! Maybe this is the exception but it happens every day like clockwork throughout the WHOLE year, no matter what the weather is like.

No they don't have massive bags, no they're not disabled and no, on the whole, the kids don't come across as spoiled brats. How do I know this? I teach at the School on a Thursday.

Fair do's and I wouldnt disagree with you.

But I did rather feel that "Nice to see the car being bought and used for a proper reason" sounded like someone who was rather up themselves. I'm sure that's not the case for this chap but whether we like ot not you pay your road tax and use the car how you like. 4x4 offroad enthusiasts can on occassion be just as annoying as school run mums in their own way.

May I add a personal perspective. I have had responsibility for the school run since my daughter started nursery and until she became independent enough to get to and from school alone-year7. In my case it was because of my late wife's illness and my being a single parent for nearly 8 years.

The assumption that the parent taking a child or children on a short journey to school is then going to go home to rest or play for the rest of the day is idle and in my case insulting. I have continued in full time professional work throughout. I would have loved to stroll to school and back but my circumstances meant that I had to be elsewhere and soon.

Among those you assume are going to gossip with their friends before a visit to the beauty salon or a little light shopping may be others who have a busy and useful life about which you are entirely unaware.

Sneering at others is always tempting but seldom wise.

JCP - I appreciate and respect your perspective. Having looked back through the thread at least no one on this Topic made any the above stated assumptions and quite rightly so, that would be well out of order.

Sandy, sorry for the tone of my post and thanks. I'm also a lazy s*od and nowadays how have little excuse for my over reliance on fuel power.
