Why so few green yetis?

Featured Replies

Well its a cracking colour for a yeti especially with gobi interior, mmmm!

just been snuffling on autotrader and out of 240 odd yetis in the UK ony one green one!

are people hanging on to then or is there some reason why.

Green is generally seen as a very unlucky colour...

Also BRG is really seen as a colour only fit for a Jaguar or something British (hence the B in the name!) thus not seeing it on much else.

The last time green was fashionable was in the late 90s when the Golf GTI came out in a dark Malachite green.

Most modern cars seem to be one of the various shades of silver or a cheaper non-metallic colour like red or white.

As said, green cars are generally thought to be unlucky.

I agree, it's a cracking combo with the light interior though.

But I'd never buy one because it's a bit boring, give me something a bit brighter.

Unlucky or lucky colour :o

The most famous car colours by DuPont in 2010:

For 2011 it is pretty much the same (with white and black gaining ground at the expense of silver) except that green is whole 50% less fashionable in Europe:

Oak Green was a very popular colour for the Golf Gti MK11, looked good....

Green is generally considered an unlucky colour on a car and because of that its not popular, which means its not the best option come resale time. "The day you buy is the day you sell."

With the top four colours being Silver, black, white and grey I understand why I like cars with a little colour.

It's pretty drab out there...

Same age, but I bet it's an auto. The manual was very rare.

Not popular and unlucky are synonyms? Nice to have again a green car (don't bother reselling), it's not overwhelmed by the mass. B)

Fascinating stuff guys.

interesting that gold is even less popular.

I wanted a yellow seat leon cupra a few years back but the other half put her foot down and I ended up with a grey cupra.

so why are green cars considered unlucky?

any basis in cold hard facts.

seems to me it's the driver who is unlucky not the car.

(although there was a recent posting on here of a bashed up amazon green yeti!)

I did a google search on which colours of cars are the safest and came across this:

http://www.aaafoundation.org/pdf/CarColorAndSafety.pdf

The conclusion of the article being:

"When choosing a vehicle, the bottom line is that there is presently no scientific evidence supporting the selection of one particular vehicle color as the unambiguous best choice for safety."

Ah thanks for that! Your links says:

It is noted that the color red, used for fire fighting equipment, is one of the least visible of vehicle colors. Optometrists note that, for its high visibility, lime yellow should be used by fire and rescue teams, as well as favored by trucks and car buyers. Lime yellow falls in the middle of the color spectrum (Schuman 1991).

See what I said on this very subject in September last year:

In that post I also posted a link as to what someone's take is on why green is an unlucky colour. :giggle:

This is how an Oak Green Yeti may look like... :)

I'm away to look for a Lime Yellow respray.

"Respray"??!?!?! That is very old hat Photoemt! These days you can change the colour of your car every year by just wrapping it in vinyl film! :giggle: NO need to spray a car anymore. To top it all it only costs about £1,400 for a whole car in a "normal" colour and when you peal it off you have a pristine original colour underneath! The Germans have done this to their funny cream/yellow Merc taxis for decades. Under every cream/yellow German taxi lurks a standard black or silver Merc!

Wow Blue Peter certainly started something with all that "sticky backed plastic" you'll be telling me that you can make a DPF out of a washing up liquid bottle next. On a serious note I know some Ambulance services have used Yellow vinyl on their response cars as an alternative to repraying them.

Just browsing my way through this thread whilst looking at our colour charts and found myself staring at Black, Grey, Silver and a mixed variation of the colours.... then.... vRS colours Yellow, Race Blue and Rallye Green, admittedly yellow is for the brave but

I'm with Richard (BossFox) on this one, have a car that stands out a bit. I know the article mentioned that Red shouldn't be used on Fire engines etc, but you sure can't miss it, even if they think you can!

Nope. For the reasons stated above and in the other thread I linked, I will never ever own a red car. Even if I was lucky enough to be able to afford a Ferrari it won't be bought in red.

BUT Rallye Green!!!!!!!! I'd LOVE a Yeti in that colour. Or Race Blue. Both lovely bright colours.

:giggle:

Not too sure about the Rallye Green on the Yeti but definately Race Blue.... Skoda would just need to chuck in a 200+ BHP engine and a new spec is born!
