Moved on when all the tools and chavs started getting them.

Is that code for 17-19 year olds cos I am in NO WAY a so-called chav. I just want value for money. I might claim that you like branding hence your Audi purchase. I grew up before the fairly recent obession with brands. To answer the querie about vRS v lesser models the lesser models don't fit in with my car modus operandi which in my case is buy the smallest, fastest used (code for cheapest) car I can lay my hands on.

    And I counter your 8 with a wider spread of 8 for my family................... 1968 1000 MB, 1972 S1100L, 1999 Feli 1.9D, 2 x 2000 Feli LXi's, 2003 Fabia 1.4Mpi Silverline, 2002 Octy Vrs, 2002 Octy

Bring back Mil

Have to say there are days when i miss our 2.0 Fabia, was just a nice easy drive.

Skoda's weve had,

Brand new Fabia 1.9 tdi Elegance,

Felica 1.3 lx

Octavia 2.0tdi Ambiente

Fabia 2.0 Elegance

Roomster 1.9tdi 3

Now have,

mk1 Octavia 1.9tdi Ambiente

mk2 Octavia 2,0tdi Sport DSG

Will get round to having a VRS at some point.

Amazing loyalty.

I think Rob's pretty young like me too... 23? I just think there's a few good guys and bad guys around :)

If you know your not a chav, dont worry about :)

Fabia 1.4 16v (1st Skoda in the family)

Octavia 1.8t 20v L&K (parents)

3 x Fabia vRS (brother)

Octavia vRS 2.0 CR (Bought after owning the Fabia for 5+ years)

To be honest, I was going to get an elegance but they were like hens teeth, style didn't excite me, and a vRS was dangled under my nose for a good price. While I like to wonder just how much more efficient the elegance 2.0 cr would have been, I do enjoy the style and power of the vrs.

Had a MK1 Fabia Sport years ago and then got a load of company cars through work, always had an itch for a Fabia vRS and eventually had to scratch it. Still really enjoying it but not sure if I'll get another Skoda. Don't like the new Fabia vRS but might go for an Octavia, have got an itch for a Golf R32 now tho........

I didn't buy a VRS because of the fuel and insurance prices (I do a lot of miles) and although I used to get up early on sunday mornings to go for a fast drive on B roads, I now rarely do that and won't pay that much extra money for an hours fun a week. Also I so rarely get to drive quickly and when I do, its no more than thirty seconds before I catch up the OAP in the Rover in front, I can and do overtake, but people treat that like its a crime...

brought an 1.4 S (basic spec) love the 1.4 not so keen on the S spec.

i bought my vrs when i was 19 and its the best car ive owned. ive always wanted one since the come out and now i have one lol

Chopped in my fantastic '05 Octavia 2.0 TDi about 4 months ago for a 2006 TFSi vRS example. The diesel was intended purely as a stop-gap when the 19 year love affair with Italians came to an end following my Alfa 156 chewing its gearbox..

However, it was so good - reliable, understated (and quick) that I kept it for over two years.

Thing was, every time I saw a vRS I experienced a little pang of jealousy which I found harder to resist.

If I could have stretched to it I'd have gone for a diesel but they were, unfortunately out of my reach - therefore I'm now back at the green pumps & exercising restraint when possible. .

It's a fantastic car & I'm a definite Skoda convert now, following in the tracks of both my brother & father who were earlier adopters with two Fabias & a Felicia between them.

Next? 3.6 Superb.. ;-)

iv just done a 50 mile round trip on B roads and got 47.6mpg :)

Insurance can be abit steep but you get what you pay for

im 20, needed practical & something to enjoy oh and insurable, insurance is £830, compared to the mk6gtd i was looking at it was a no brainer on the pocket,

But to what percentage? And why didt you buy a vRS?!

Fabia VRS: It had all of the nice kit and more power than the Elegance. A little concerned about the upholstery but though it grimes up, it's still in one piece. As to what it bares - It's RS? :giggle:

Octy is our 3rd Skoda estate, 2 x Felicia a few years back.

Bought the 1.4 SE Estate mainly for the cave at the rear, for carrying model planes about, Yes I would have liked a VRS but as I drive solo 99.99% of the time with an empty boot the 1.4 does the job well enough, (and saved me dosh to spend on more planes to carry about) :giggle: .

Went for the SE as the two must have's on a car for me are remote central locking and lecky front windows, it was very near £1000 dearer for the SE but figured the extra bits were worth it, (alloys, Balero ect), the elegance added bits I would probably never use.

The only disappointing thing with the 1.4 is the throttle response, claimed to be fly by wire, more like loosely aimed by elastic band.

Make that 2 things, the heater is O so slow and warming up and clearing the screen.

Was looking a couple of years ago at a fabia vrs for work but ended up with a 306 due to 45k a year mileage and how that would effect resale value :p But now working closer to home have gone for a octy 4x4 did look at vrs's but the 4x4 tempted me away  plus didnt cost to much ;) Very impressed with the octy's load space reminds me of my saab 900 t16 whale tail :'(

Wanted a VRS but budget constraints meant I had to go with a 1.8T 4x4 with stage 1 map. So far quite happy with it.

I think im gonna win lol in order 2003 1.4 octy classic, 2002 52 octy vrs, 2001 y octy tdi elegance, 2001 y octy vrs, 2004 54 octy elegance estate 1.8t, 2001 y octy lauren and klement, 2005 05 fabia vrs, an currently 06 octy vrs mk1.

Have at thee Sir!

The VRS is a hot hatch, just like the Golf GTI, Focus ST, Leon FR etc of the same vintage.

Cupra R, S3, Golf R, Focus RS, etc are uber hatches.

Well had to do 400 miles yesterday as the clockwise M25 was closed due to the big crash at South Mimms.

Thank God I was in the L&K (dsg) and not the TSI VRS (manual) considering the time in the car, the traffic. The L&K's electric seat, more comfortable ride with the frugal 7 speed DSG made the journey less of a pain than it would have been in the VRS.

Less is more though it did not seem so when I bought the L&K for £19K when a VRS would have only been £17K.

Hi, I've noticed a fairly strong bias/preoccupation with VRS models & ownership. Skoda has a long history and the models of today have evolved & developed from the cars of the past. Richness comes from diversity and a genuine contentment in what you own. I wouldn't use the term 'lesser' skoda's just different. Thanks, Rob.

I think Ema mant 'lower spec', rather than actually meaning something derogatory. Just easier to put in the title.

I'm glad everyone is different, I probably wouldn't buy a vRS if everyone had one.

Hi, I agree. Briskoda is, in my opinion, better & stronger for the inclusion and contribution of a wide range of Skoda owners, old & new.

I've seen some great vRS models running around & equally older classic Skoda's. I think mine's viewed a bit like marmite, either loved or

hated, but I've always been ok with that and for me it's making the most of what you're lucky enough to own/drive & appreciating it.

The standard VRS has a much lower spec than the L&K models usually. Yes the engine is sometimes a higher rating but the fastest/quickest Skoda you can get, the 3.6L Superb, is available in Elegance and L&K trim not VRS. Can you even get the full phone system on a manual VRS? Confused by the brochure. I did 10K miles in our TSi VRS before my L&K arrived and still enjoy the occasional zing in the VRS but far prefer spending my time ie half my working day which I spend in the car, in the higher spec L&K than the lower spec VRS and I am not convinced it is economical or even possible to put all the extras you get in an L&K on the VRS as options, somebody might be able to say otherwise but again I wanted the 1.8 TSI with 7 speed DSG for its acceleration and economy combination plus all the luxury features at a bargain price which the L&K with the VAT offer gave me.

I wonder what category Jason's 'Mongrel' or the vRS engined Mk1 Fabia estates would come under?

I wouldn't call them a 'Lesser Model'. Jason has one of the most powerful Fabia's on this forum, but originality it was a humble 1.9TDI.

I only put 'lesser model' as a joke guys come on!

i always try and aim for the highest powered or/and highest spec in whatever car i go for, i know theres an obvious price difference and insurance but at least if u pull up to the lights and another Skoda pulls along side, we will eaither equal and give each other thumbs for nice choice or feel slightly superior :giggle:

But the VRs is a lesser skoda, being based of an ambiente or classic depending on which model ;)
