How long from build date to delivery?

Featured Replies

Hi. I'm a newbie to the forum and am wondering if anyone can tell me how long it normally takes new cars to arrive in the UK. My dealer has told me that my car was "in port of exit release" on 23rd January, so when do you think it might get here?

I offered to pay for the car when it reaches the dealer on the understanding that he would delay registration till 1st March, but he said that Skoda insist on the car being registered within 10 days of being delivered to the dealer. If this doesn't happen, the dealer will apparently lose some bonus. Has anyone else come across this problem before?

Sadly it is not a defined art - different members have different experiences of delivery time. Check out the link on my signature.

Generally 3-4 weeks, but can be a lot longer. Depends on lots of things like having to dig it out from snow when it arrived in the UK & I had to wait an extra week because it was too dangerous to transport it from Sheerness to my dealer. That memory is now a very distant memory. I've had almost 14 months of ownership now.

23 days here

Skoda UK requires the dealer to register the vehicle within 10 days of it being delivered to them. So technically if your Yeti is delivered to the dealer before the 20th February then it will be registered in February and so have a 61 number plate. Hopefully Skoda will show some degree of flexibility if the delivery date is only a few days before the 20th but don't count on it. I delayed ordering my car after the dealer and Skoda UK made this policy very, very clear to me.

Let us all know what happens.

It will probably arrive within the next two weeks.

Find yourself a decent dealer next time because this daft 10 day rule people keep quoting is not the case everywhere.

Shame you'll be away until the end of Feb, which is why you wanted it in March... ;)

My current experience:

Ordered mid-August

Built week commencing 16 Jan

At port in Germany on 24 Jan

Boarded the ship and sailed the same day

Arrived UK port 1 day later

Expected at dealer 2 or 3 Feb.

I am collecting on 6th Feb.

I think my experience is atypical - I have hounded Skoda UK and they tell me that to get on the ship the day of arrival at the dock is unusual. That said, I also badgered them into giving me a courtesy car until mine arrives, so they have an incentive to grease mine through the system. Still, it shows what is possible with the right persuasion.

Just like you are?? :giggle:

Exactly. :)

Handy things these mobile phones with internet.

Many thanks to all of you for your help. Ideally, I'd have hoped it would take 4 weeks to arrive (maybe it will as it has to come all the way to Scotland!).

Yes, I do like the suggestion of being away till the end of this month! :D I had already tried the excuse of "It'll take a couple of weeks to get the funds together", but the dealer would still register the car to meet Skoda's demands.

Perhaps the customer is no longer right any more - or am I just being cynical? :giggle:

Mine was a week one build, at Emden on the 9th January, at the dealer on 12th,and in my grubby hands on the 20th.

It is intended to be a long term friendship, so the 61 plate is not a problem. So far I have done 600 miles and love it. Quite a learning experience, I was suprised to see in the handbook that the life expectancy of the alarm is six years. One possible problem is that when I used the de-mist max yesterday and today I am sure there were exhaust fumes in the cabin. ;)

Had no problem with my dealer holding onto car for a couple of weeks extra at this time last year. Even though I was transferring a cherished plate, he said it would be better at trade-in to be 1 March reg (we'll see about that when I go back for a replacement in a couple of years!).

Just had the confirm build date for my SM as week 11 after ordering it week 45 last year

I ordered mine through DTD with Hayselden Skoda Doncaster--who seem very good and are no problem when I ring them about updates on the progress of my order.

If it gets delivered say 3 weeks after that date, that will mean about a 5 month wait which is a lot better than the local Skoda dealer was quoting at the time I ordered it---they were saying about another 2 months on top of that :o

Can't wait to get it --although if the forecast for the weekend is right, I could do with it now! :D

That's because each dealer has an allocation of build spaces I believe.

Sounds like the local dealer had less, or had already used the closer dated ones up.

It also didn't help when the dealership involved had a totally take it or leave it attitude- with no deal either end of the valuations for the SM or for my current car.

Quote, " I can probably sell them for more than list"

So unsurprisingly I decided to walk away.

Dealers with that sort of attitude show an astonishing lack of foresight. Skoda have doubled the capacity to build Yetis and the current sellers market will, inevitably, end.

In your case he didn't just not compete for your business he helped you form part of the trend towards broker based business.

Every car sale makes only a certain amount of cash available to the industry-Brokers take part of it meaning dealers get less.

So his attitude is cutting his own throat by stages-fool.

28 days here (built 2nd January, collected 30th January)

To me that would be a warning sign to never go near the place again. Buying or servicing.

Clearly they don't value the customer.

Only 28 Days... I'm still being quoted 6 months. I really hope they're ramping up production.

That sounds promising - I hope mine takes that long! Thanks very much.

Be careful what you wish for-you will see greater depreciation along with increased supply.....I bought a demo to avoid the wait and so far no regrets at all.

That's 28 days from the build date to delivery, not from the order date!

Mine was 23 days; but I could have waited...

Took about two months from the time of order here in Italy. Ordered from a well-respected VW/Skoda dealer in Verona and the process was handled quite well. Since my copy was a fairly basic ‘white’ with manual transmission along with a few extras, it didn’t tax the production schedule.

Indeed, the order date for our Yeti was 1st October, so 17 weeks from order to delivery!
