To cut a long story short...I bought a car with retrofitted Xenon's, after a while the sidelights failed (on MOT day) so my wife went to Halfords to get some put in so that the car would pass. What were taken out look (to someone with no knowledge of these sorts of things) to be LEDs and the Halfords chap replaced them with standard (yellowy) bulbs. Having the yellow sidelights next to the white xenons looks rubbish of course so I'm trying to replace them with something of the same colour.

After trawling through briskoda I went for Philips bluevision 'xenon effect' sidelight bulbs and heres the problems: how do they fit? I can remove the headlight unit and unscrew the sidelight holder but what's in there at the moment is a bayonet-fit bulb and what I want to put in looks nothing like it - help!

Sorry if this is trivial but I'm hoping someone out there will take pity on a novice...

Btw, car is an '06 Octavia VRs.

That suggests you have bought the wrong bulb.

Plus Halfords don't know what they are on about!

Yep agree with the above, you've bought the wrong bulbs, keep a sidelight bulb out and take it with you when you go to buy some more.
