VRS tyres - help please

Featured Replies

Hi I have a 59 2.0l VRS DSG and it seems to love tyres!! First set of Continentals lasted 11k miles, second set of Michelins Pilot 3 14k ans second set of same 12k? What else do you all run please?

Factory fitted dunlop so sports lasted 18k on front ,then put vredstein ultrac sessantas on and got about same out of them.

Although I can't tell you how long they'll last (because they've only been on for around 2k), I can wholeheartedly recommend Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2s. They are quiet, pliant and grippy and apparently the rolling resistance is good too. Not cheap though. Get what you pay for I guess.

i fitted these about 5000 miles ago and there's still loads of life in them. Shop around and you can get a reasonable dal on them, had mine fitted for £128 a corner by ordering from Tyreshopper and they weref itted by the local national Tyres centre.

Extremely happy with the performance of the tyres, and can see me getting them again as long as they last a reasonable number of miles

P.S. Impressed by cbr600 getting that mileage out of the factory fitted Dunlops. I thought they were the worst tyre I've had on any car I've driven in the last ten years and replaced them at 8500 because they were down to 3 mm, I then got 17k out of the Vredsteins I replaced them with...

when you say "set" do you mean 2 or 4?

My last set of 4 continental sportcontact3's lasted 28k IIRC - swapped fronts to rear about halfway through. I drive the car pretty hard.

I've just put 4x vred sessantas on mine (last week), I have to say out of all the cars and tyres I have driven with these feel like they have the best grip and handling (and that's with temps below 2•C.)

Have got 18k our of front Maxxis MAZ1 so far. Should get about 22k I think. £86 a corner fitted. Been as good as anything else I've had on the car (Conti, Avons).

TFSI so I assume not as much weight on the tyres as the derv.

Uniroyal rainsport 2's

Sounds like you must drive on the "Enthusiastic" side of the scale, I have to say one of the best Tyres I've tried in recent years is the Hankook V12 Evo's, I had a set of 4 fitted to a Megane 225 Sport and the car was completely transformed, huge amounts of grip in terms of braking, cornering and fantastic in the wet too.

By far one of the best value for money tyres at the moment - I even rated them higher then Conti CS2's to be honest, if they were twice the price I would have believed it from driving on them.

Bargain on Camskill at the moment too £90 each

Just another point: elitedirect.com are cheap for some tyres and clickontyres.com managed to beat any price I seemed to find elsewhere (but got back to me too late)

Wow you are an enthusiastic driver!!! I have just replaced all 4 tyres (2 weeks ago) on my Vrs estate, I went for Conti SportContact 3's all around. Had these factory fresh on my Mk1 Vrs back in the day and got 48K miles out of them, I'll see what they're like this time around I guess.

PeteHuws,

Thanks for this reply and for all the others as well. I must add that I actual drive quite carefully and have done 30k miles since last service and not had the spanner yet! Went to several garages today and all said that Audi's eat tyres and some only do 8k per front set re the negative camber!! So maybe my 14k is not too bad then! Still thinking what to buy.

Sounds like you need a geometry check, just to eliminate the possiblilty of misalignment increasing tyre wear...

Tyres have been done to death on here!!

Second the above - Vreds are awsome - I had them on my last VRS and I miss them even though I've got Conti Sports on this one. Will replace with Vreds when the time comes. Cost effective too!
