Starting problems hot or cold

Featured Replies

Hi all ..I have a 2005 octavia with automatic trans , it has a 1.6 mpi petrol engine . the car is hard to start from cold and sometimes its the same from hot .when you try to start it will only turn over and try its best to start but you have to press the accelerator to get it going and when it does start it runs like the engine is choked up until it clears itself and then runs fine , on one or two occasions it has back fired up through the intake .The exhaust emission light has been coming on for nearly two years and garage said they cant see why . the secondary air pump has been changed and all the pipe work around it , i had a look at the air pump today and noticed water in it and its not working. my garage told me that there was water in it before and they didnt know why , but i did notice today that they have drilled holes at the bottom of the air filter box , i cant see how water from outside the car could get into the air pump as the inlet to the air pump is very high up in the filter box and if that much water got into the box it would kill the engine ... i know there is alot here to take in but i am at my wits end with it , hope someone can help

Have you had it scanned for any fault codes?

My garage have ran a scan on it every time it has gone in and they say nothing shows up they even did a reset on the ecu and no change. unless they are not telling me the full story . the only thing that they said that it could be the throttle body but they couldn't be sure . but can't see how this could cause back fire up the intake and water in the secondary air pump
