VRS TDI Estate Cambelt

Featured Replies

Good morning all,

Just part ex'd my Leon FR for something with more space, this is my first post so I apologise if its repeat of a previous thread.

New car is a 2008 VRS TDI Estate with 65k miles, bought it from a Skoda dealer who assured me that cambelt is not due a change until the 80k mark, therefore it was not done in the pre pick up service that the car received.

I was wondering however, is the fact that the car is now 4 yrs old cause to have a cambelt change?

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Yes, 80,000 miles OR 4 years, whichever is reached first.

Take it back, the dealer should know better. I'd be insisting on an FOC cambelt service or at least a £400 refund...

Cheers mate.

Find it pretty shocking that a Skoda dealer would dodge the camber change on a Skoda they are selling, like you say they should know better!

Let us know how you get on...

Name and shame I say!

80k is quiet high I taught is was 60k was it not? I also don't get the 4 year thing it's a bit of a joke, cam belts do not Purish in 5 years even,iv changed cam belts on low miles cars (40-50k)after 7-8 years old and there fine!

Is ur vrs a cr or pd and have they both differant intervals?

Also the belt on the 2.0tdi is even wider/stronger than the 1.9tdi.

Car is a pd. I managed to speak to a lady at Skoda after emailing my enquiry via the Skoda.co.uk website. She said they are unable to just give a generic answer by model, they pass the reg no on to the technical team who then advise. she said to expect an email tomorrow so I will update as and when it arrives.

Skoda.co.uk say 100,000km or 4 years. However the service book says 150,000km and no mention of age, so it wasn't done on the service at 65k and dealer will only do what is written in book. Got 12 months skoda warranty with car, so atleast I have a little piece of mind for time being and will make sure next service includes cambelt.

If all the VAG sources (INCLUDING SKODA UK!!!!) recommend 80k OR 4 Yrs, whichever comes first, they can't just change the goalposts because THIS time it will cost THEM, rather than the customer!!?? They would be fast enough to invalidate any warranty claim (cambelt related or not) had YOU not had the belt/oil/filter/anything else changed within the specified time/mileage constraints!!

DOUBLE STANDARDS!!!! I would being going :punch:
