Price to change car

Featured Replies

Went into arnold clark inverness yesterday to see about buying a new octavia vrs diesel. At the moment i have a June 2008 hatch with 33000 miles. Extras on the car are xenons, rear parking sensors auto lights/wipers with auto rear view mirror, maxi dot, upper side air bags. The new car would have the same spec plus a spare wheel and the alcantara, oh and it will be Anthracite this time. The £19532.49 for the new car seems not to bad, but the trade in price for my car £8760 seems a bit low for a car that has a dealer service history, low miles and to be told by the sales man that the car was "very very clean" even the sales manger came out his office to have a look. Think i will give the dealer in dunfermline a phone to see what they can do. What do you guys think of the trade in price us owners can get a bit of blinkers when it comes to our cars prices lol.

Got £10k for my 58 vRS CR with 33k on the clock and dsg, Xenons and upgraded Columbus from the standard Stream MP3...as well as all the upgrade pack - jumbo box etc so I think they're pulling your....chain.

Err he did didn't he?

I was going to edit, he said about the car to buy but not his

Why are you A, going diesel and B, getting a new one, if you racked up a high milage, and/or kept it for 5 years maybe, do a search I assume then your car is a cr vRS I searched in my area this is what it came up with, so giving you nowt for your car

Apart from the std spec plus what i said on the original post, the stereo is a stream, and the car was fitted with the jumbo box and electric back windows. I have no intrest in the petrol model, both me and my wife like the way the diesel drives. we dont thrash the car and when we do some miles its usualy a fair bit in a short time. The skoda website is a daily check of mine, the cars 2nd hand are more expensive than a brand new car or to many miles or not the spec that i want.

Drivethedeal internet sales have good offers on at the mo, even cheaper than autofinders. Is your car a 2.0 or 1.9? Elegance or ambiente? Colour?

Thoroughly recommend Drive the deal - about to buy my fourth Skoda with their help and every deal has given me the flex to offload the used car at a bargain price to the buyer.

+1 That is what I was getting at, all I know it is a cr hatchback, and the used locator show what yours is worth, just knock a grand off, still cant see why you would want a diesel you need to be at least 12,000 miles a year and or keep for more than 3 years for your outlay. You have lost £3590.83 a year in depreciation , why change anyway, also, NOBODY pays full price for a new car due to be replaced any time soon, I got a huge discount on mine and the model had just come out :wonder:

Your lucky i got given 7k as a price for mine last week :giggle: same spec as yours and petrol ....i'll just keep it thanks.

At least Richard Turpin wore a mask! Wouldn't let me put his real name in :giggle:

haha  apparently thats what CAP came up with. :S

2008 58, in race blue, FSH, 2.0TFSI 42k on the clock, xenons, columbus jumbo box etc...even rubber mats thrown in lol.

That is the unfortunate thing with extras, it doesn't change the CAP valuation later on down the line.

Glass's guide:

Part-exchange Price:

Excellent condition: £8920

Average condition: £8260

Below average condition: £7380

As said why change?

Or if you are desperate for a new car, sell yours private (easy £10-11k) and buy one substantially cheaper from DtD. Thats what i did.

When I first looked at your thread I thought £8760 was a fair price to be honest. All figures are of course relative for any deal so the actual figure offered for yours doesn't really matter, it's the balance to change you need to worry about.

Having just put your exact spec requirements through DTD, based on a hatch, their price comes out at £18399.42, thus a total saving of list price of £4917.06, which includes the pay not vat offer. They do NOT take part-ex vehicles so as per the previous thread, sell yours privately and buy from DTD to narrow the gap or shop around with dealers nationwide until you get close to the £1100 difference, it IS possible!

The only thing about living so far north, when it comes to selling cars people are not willing to travel to the area unless ur selling it at a crazy low price. and the dealers have a captive market so that keeps the dealer prices up too. think i will give the inverness and dunfermline dealers a chance to match the dtd price.

The problem is that over the past couple of years of offering zero vat deals means that the used values have dropped as well.

Just wondering why you are only trying Inverness and Dunfermline ? I've never dealt with them, but have read (on here) many good things about the Skoda dealer just outside Perth (Potters ?) - might be worth a phone call / visit. A mate of mine bought a new Octavia from the dealer in Stirling last year and was pleased with the deal / service from there too.

I almost dealt with Inverness a while back (when they were still Delmore Cars), but they wouldn't budge on price. I must be near you, but have travelled that little bit further to get my servicing and warranty work done at Victoria Garage, Maud. Very pleased with service there and they do sell new Skodas to order (they don't stock any new vehicles though).

Thomson and Potter (Burrelton) are good. Alan is a bit laid back though it's quite hard to get him to sell you a car. All the locals just walk in and buy from him so he doesn't have to chase for business like most dealers.

You'll still need to haggle a trade in figure and not take the first offer.

You've also got Specialist Skoda in Aberdeen and Dundee. I found the Aberdeen lot ok but have read a few negative comments. Not tried Dundee.

Hi, any joy with the dealers or DTD? Out of interest do you want a brand new motor - reason I ask is I have a car you're looking for on the classifieds section - the spec you want albeit it's blue (I know!), standard seats and no spare wheel (easy to remedy). I'm looking for a car like yours so I can pocket a few quid. If interested let me know the colour, if elegance or ambiente spec and engine size. We might be able to do a swap. Values are all relative so you'd have to let me know what you'd be prepared to put down with your motor. PM me if interested - all details on ad in classifieds (second page).
