VRS tyre size

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just wondered what the standard tyre size is for a VRS? I'm guessing 215/45/17?

Thanks

205/50/17 are what they came with out of the factory but you can fit 225/45/17 too.

Thanks very much :)

225/45/17 are cheaper but you loose about 5mpg. Id stick with 205/50/17

is there any huge difference between the two? apart from price and mpg? Better grip?... if there's one thing i struggle to get my head around its tyres (points for spotting the in joke :p)

I ran khumo 245's over the summer they didn't have noticeable grip over the 205 Falkens I had before and the mpg was worse and they wore out extremely quickly. 245 is generally cheaper than 205 but with the extra fuel costs cost more in the long term. Ride was harsher aswell.

seems they are not worth it then as im on coilys the tyres are extra important for balancing handling and comfort

Wait for some other replies m8, might of been better with Falkens or another brand, that was just my experience with them, I forgot to mention that they tramlined aswell with me lol. I am going back to 205's when its time to put my summers back on and I am thinking of 452's again.

Its always better to get a few views just not one and make a decision from them.

yh i know haha thought you where two people this is what long nights do to you haha

Tell me about it! Roll on 7.30! lol

I fitted 225 45 17 typo proxes t1r at the weekend and I've used nearly a tank of fuel. not noticed any change in fuel consumption. the ride is slightly firmer but i went for xl tyres.

i use 205/45/17 speedo is out above 70ish but decent price's

I have just ordered 2 new Falken 452's from Camskill, they are cheaper in 205/50/17 than 225/45/17

I've put things up about this before but essentially the 225's are cheaper to buy, easier to get hold of (more cars fit them)and offer more outright grip. The downsides are that rolling resistance increases to the detriment of fuel economy, steering feel decreases (and weight increases) and they tramline more readily when comparing like with like tyres.

The 205's are easier to get hold of now than when the cars first came out as at that time, the only other production car using the size was the front axle of the base model Porsche Boxster.

Personally, I'd say that if you want the best feel and economy then go for 205's. If you're after absolute outright grip and aren't fussed with economy then go for 225's. The difference of £10 or so per tyre between each size is very quickly dimished by the increase in fuel economy so it comes down to what you actually want from the tyres.

My personal experience on the vRS has so far been of the following:

-205 Pirelli P7 (Motorway tyres, fun and drifty, especially when warm. Good wear & economy)

-205 Pilot Exalto (Good balance between life, grip & economy)

-225 Eagle F1 GSD3 (Great to half depth then uneven wear, terrible grip and lots of noise. These were the later Chinese made version after the introduction of the Asymetric's. The older German made tyres were significantly better)

-225 Michelin PS2 (absolutely the best performance tyres I've used for feel, grip & progression)

-225 Michelin PS3 (not as good as the predecessor PS2)

-205 Continental WinterContact TS830 (outstanding all season tyres)

-225 Bridgestone RE050A PP (worst performance tyres ever used)

-225 Continental WinterContact TS810 (not as good as the TS830 I used last winter but passable. Narrower winter tyres are definitely better as they increase pressure on a given area and allow the siping to work more effectively).

i may got 205/50 the problem i have at the mo with these fabia tyres is that the painted on rims (205 40) are playing havock with my speedo! its 7 mph off

it wont be 7mph out the whole way its gets a few out at 30 but its kind of a good thing as your doing 30 on speedo = 27, 70 on speedo 64 in real

haha yh on the motorway if im doing 80 on the speed my saynav says im doin 71 :giggle:

I'm getting another pair of Avon ZV5 205/50R17 XL 93W tyres this weekend.

I love them. Best tyre I've had on the car in the last 4.5yrs.

They've lasted me 2 years, and I average about 11k miles a year, so not bad on wear.
