Genral Cable

Featured Replies

I like to have some wire about for general use, like wiring up extra power supplies, lights etc.

I've ran out of the stuff I got years ago from a parts place closing down and I don't know what rating the wire was. I'm after some wire I can use for different stuff in the octy without it going up in flames etc lol. So what's the best sized stuff to get? There's stuff like normal pvc coating and thin wall what's best?

If you have a piece left, measure the diameter of the stripped cable. From that you can work out the CSA and current capacity.

Got some short pieces of cable left but i haven't used owt on the octy coz i dunno if it's any good lol

I'm after some genral cable that i can use for most things on the car. Was thinking of buying 20m+ and using it when i need to for different things. So the question is what size and sort of cable is best??

In some cases you need to use the correct size, but for general purpose, I would use cable with a CSA of 2.5mm.

Here's a few examples of what sizes VAG uses...

0.35mm signal wires to cluster

0.5mm smallest wire from the fuse box

1.0mm rear lights

1.5mm headlight

2.5mm feed for blower motor

4.0mm main feeds from relay plate

10mm main feed to fusebox

16mm main feed to relay panel
