Washer Pipe Sizes

Featured Replies

Ok well I thought I'd ask this as I haven;t got the car with me today so can't check...

Does anybody know what size the washer pipes are from the pump in teh front nearside wheelarch?

I replaced by pump this weekend as the old one as leaking and the pipes are only long enough to fit one way but the new pump must spin the opposite way to the old one as the front washer now drenches the rear screen and vice versa (ebay...). Anyhow rather than faffing with the wiring I simply want to plug the connectors on the other way round and pipework isn't long enough so I need to extend it. Stupidly though I forgot to measure the pipe sizes before I refitted the wheellarch liner but remember one was smaller than the other and it's the small one I need to extend. I'm guessing it's 3mm ID but I'm not sure so could do with confirmation before I purchase some connectors???

Try your local aquarium or pet shop for bits. It is the same size as they use

Thanks for that - I've just been thinking exactly the same and have a Pets at Home store up the road! The thing is thier website only seems to show 6mm and I'm sure what I want is smaller... looks like I'll be dismantling again...

4mm internal diameter

Thanks Mattie :thumbup: - is that for both front and rear feeds from the pump as I had the impression that the shorter one on the offside of the pump was a narrower pipe??

From what I remember when I replaced them and fitted headlight washer jets I used 4mm id silicone hosing and it's fine.

Well I sorted this today but could only get 3mm pipe and 4mm connectors. I tried for ages to extend one of the existing pipes but failed as they were just too inflexible and rigid to accept the new connectors so gave up and ran a whole new length of pipe in about 10m minutes...

So... tip of the day to anyone else doing this is don't try and extend... just run a new pipe to the next connector along the run!

Anyhow at least they now work as they should so thanks for the help...
