Run off from wipers obscuring the side mirrors

Featured Replies

Hi,

Tried looking for this problem across the forums, but couldn’t find anything.

The problem I seem to be having with my Fabia MK2 (2011), is when I use the windscreen wipers, the off run moves across the driver’s door window obscuring the side mirror making it nigh on impossible to see anything in it!

It’s a bit disconcerting as I then have to physically move to look back rather than just using the mirror as intended. Obviously in those sort of conditions I should be watching the road ahead just in case

If anybody has any suggestions, they would be more than welcome

Thanks

Just apply Rain X to the side windows. Follow the application instructions carefully. Job done. emoticon-0105-wink.gif

Ive had this really bada few times in heavy rain. Driver side window becomes a river

think it's just a characteristic, happens with mine too.

maybe trying adjusting the water jet slightly but don't think it's going to help it too much

GTechnik G3 is miles better than RainX

My dads Fabia is the same, as was my now sold Superb MK2.

Wax them!

I have a couple of coats of colly on all windows except windscreen.

Won't last as long as G1 but does the job great.

The same thing happens on the Roomster (but the front end is a Fabia II). The wing mirrors seem very good at getting covered in dirt so you can't use them as well as the drivers window issue.

Never heard of G1, certainly looks a great product, might be investing in some now.

Cheers

This was reported by "Honest John" on his google review of the new fabia. I believe there is a mod available in the form of a 'deflector' but couldn't swear to it. I have experienced this with mine but never to the point that I couldn't see through the mirror.

And I thought I was the only person that had experienced this....

I do mega miles in mine and it has been an on-going problem, especially in heavy rain, to the extent where I couldn't see out of either wing mirrors on the motorway.

I used some glass water repellent and that has worked a treat on the side windows, but you do have to apply quite frequently.

I have this problem too! also thought i was the only one :) i guess not :) any one got any more ideas on the deflector mod?

I'm investigating this problem on my Roomster using a hose laid on the roof and observing how the W/S wipers cope. Driver side wiper pushes lots of water over the tapered channel at the edge of the screen. Passenger side seems much better due to different arc of wipers.

I'm going to try to find a deflector, or maybe make one if none available. I'll come back with a progress report, but I'll have to wait till it rains.

"During even moderate rain, the driver's window and door mirror visibility is obscured by water spray. When it rains it is dangerous to overtake or change lanes, as you cannot see anything in the driver's door mirror. Water also runs off the roof and the driver's door seal doesn't prevent ingress into the cabin. Skoda dealers have a modified A pillar cover 2mm wider than the original, but it does not totally solve the problem." .........This is copied from Honest Johns review. I don't recognise the drivers door seal problem. The 'modified door pillar cover' is the mod I referred to in a previous post but I have no details on whether these are actually available as an after market fit.

I have noticed this too. It's the first car for a long time that has had a problem with it too.

I will try the rain-x treatment and see if that helps. I know it works wonders on windscreens :D
