cam locking tools

Featured Replies

Need to change the cambelt on my 07 2.0 diesel.

Can anyone advise of what tools are required as far as locking the cams etc are, preferably an budget type after market ones ;) I beleive that the engine is a 1Z3385.

Cheers

Some autospares web sites will let you put in car details then bring up the correct kit.

By the way, "1Z...." is not the engine designation, it is the 'type description' i.e. model/car body/trim level code.

For engine type look on the vehicle data sticker in the car or in the handbook: under 'gearbox/paint/....engine code' the engine type will be three letters (e.g. BXE) that comes after the rated power output (e.g. 77KW).

that'll be a bkd engine then.

If you take the cam belt cover off and have a look you can sometimes make locking tools using pins/drill bits. Once I used a peice of metal and two bolts to hold 1.4 16v VAG cams on an Arosa.

For BKD: Sealey VSE2358 Diesel Engine Timing Tool Kit, around £15

thanks for that.

one small question - nether the laser or the sealey have a tool to lock the cams, they just lock the crank, injector pump and tensioner. are the cams locked or just aligned?

The laser kit listed has two pins to lock the camshafts, that tool kit is correct. It has both types of crank locking tool, make sure you use the right one (oval crank gear).

The crank and cams are locked and then you undo the 13mm bolts on both the pulleys and allow them to rotate so the cambelt tensions correctly.

There is no injector pump to lock.
