think my wife is paying far to much

Featured Replies

My wife got a 2008 Skoda Fabia 12 sport last Feb (2011) from a non franchised Skoda dealer, it is however a Nissen, Fiat Alfa and Jeep among others.

She decided to go for there 3 year service and MOT plan at £21.00 a month, worked it out the other day to be £252.00 a year now that seems a lot to me as a service is around £125 + a MOT can now be got at most place for £35 = £160, and on top of this it failed on a rear shock at £182 fitted inc VAT car only covered 18000 miles so this year service and mot worked out to be £434. Have asked her to cancel her standing order but she said its convenient and doesn't miss the £21 a month I would as my VRS was under £12 a month service only.

Yeah that it is steep, i paid £250 for 2 years servicing, 2 MOT's with MOT protection up to £900 if it fails

But its a contract isnt it? she cant just cancel it?

If it failed on a rear shock was it not under warranty from the garage you got it from? 3 months or something isn't it?

The service pack 'normally' pays for itself, 3 years service + 3 MOT's = £600+?

eg:

1st service £120 + MOT

2nd service £250 + MOT

3rd Service £120 + MOT

You are paying a lot more than its worth so someone did the math wrong.

shocks are not covered in warranty even on a new car. Same as tyres

Unfortunately, from bitter experience i know how easy this is to happen. Been sorting out a number of things recently for my dad as his power of attorney and came across his last car purchase where they sold him just about everything including GAP insurance even though he paid outright for his car (a 1.2 corsa). Yes the GAP insurance could still be useful but for someone 87 years old i dont think he really understood what he was being sold (btw he isn't driving now). The service package on that was £20/month but GMAC have been really understanding and organised a complete refund for everything paid so far. For my vRS i was offered 3 years servicing for £400 but as it would take me about 18 months to cover the three services i declined this but seemed about right in terms of value (checked with the service dept what the three services would cost).

Have to disagree there, i had two new shocks put on couple of weeks ago but he hasnt bought it from a skoda dealership, what level of warranty have they offered?

I've seen shocks and brake discs replaced under warranty.

Me too - mine were done under Skoda extneded warranty on my MK1 Fabia vRS
