Beep from Bluetooth connection

When my Yeti Elegance bluetooth system locates my phone the sound system produces the most aggrivating and unacceptably loud BEEP. I have asked the local agent and all they would do was give me the number of Skoda customer service who could do nothing but refer me back to the agent . Does anyone know how to cancel it or decrease its volume as there is no apparant access via settings either in the phone , media, or radio menus . A slight reduction occurs if the reversing sensors beep is muted but muting the radio has no effect on the phone beep. I even told both the agent and the service dept that it would prevent me buying another Yeti which had no effect !!!!!!! The actual operation of the bluetooth system is otherwise extremely usefull .

It corresponds in volume level with the telephone and so if you turn it down it means you can't hear the other party to a call. It is profoundly irritating but entirely fixable-but not by dealers. It requires a very simple alteration of the ECU coding which has to be done by someone with VCDS software and a cable from their lap top to the car's diagnostic port.

The software is not part of the Skoda dealer's armoury. You can get it done by some independent VAG specialists or an enthusiast via the Briskoda forum.

Takes moments and costs whatever you and the individual concerned agree.

Gizmo68 did mine and is a living legend.

Your location as UK doesn't give much of a clue as to who you might be near.

My other half has always told me I'm over-sensitive to noises in cars (sunglasses rattling in the holder etc), but to be honest I think the Bluetooth beep on the Columbus is quite pleasant and just reinforces the fact the connection has been made ok ?

By my reckoning this is the NINTH time that a thread has been started on this forum to ask this question. It has been answered every time. And that's not counting other, more general bluetooth topic threads where the question has come up and been answered. I do wish more people would learn to use the search function - either on here, or even good old plain ordinary Google :dull:

ej,

It can be frustrating of course but I reckon it is quicker to help a fellow yeti enthusiast than to count the number of threads there have been on a topic. Is it really 9? Some indication of how much it p*sses people off I'd guess,

cheers,

john

When you are in phone mode just turn the volume down; this will lower the volume of the 'boing'.

You can always turn the volume up when on a call.

Thanks Bahnstormer that'l do for the moment , trying to locate a VAG / VCDS operator in Somerset. Love my Yeti apart from this !!

Maybe we should have another thread, pinned, for issues like this. The same questions get asked over, and over again.

Maybe "How do I?", even if it just provided the links to other threads.

THanks John , will investigate further , this is my virginal appearance on a forum of any kind so apologies for not finding previous activity , must have used wrong search criteria .

Dear EJ , I am absolutely new to this or any other forum , I typed 'Bluetooth problem' into the search function and got nothing relevant , tried again with the addition of 'Yeti' and got some clues but nothing direct . As a result of the post I now have a solution and a means of working out what to use as search criteria so the exersize has been worth the effort even if I p******d off one or two experts for which I apologise .

Phil,

you have found a good community-as good as your Yeti and searching is an acquired skill. One of the best tips appears to be to use google to search Briskoda rather than the search function. Search terms are an issue as (as far as I can recall) the threads up till now have referred to it as the "bluetooth Bong" or possibly Boing. If you searched for it as a beep you may have been unlucky.

Just as in real life common politeness will usually pay off.

you are welcome here and will find lots of useful information, and many really civilised people.

  • 1 year later...

The Bluetooth phone connection bong as discussed above annoyed me so much that I could never be bothered to get my failed Bluetooth unit repaired for about 2 years until the first service came up just before I went on holiday. While on hol I pottered with the car and reconnected my phone. The first thing I notice is a complete absence of the boing when the phone connects every time I get into the car. Wondering if this might be a new feature of a new Bluetooth unit fitted to the car.

My new L&K also has the bong, but is very much quiter, and a more pleasant sound than my previous Elegance Bolero. The volume doesn't appear to increase with the phone volume either.

I think I once found by accident that the 'bong' volume could be adjusted by turning up or down the radio volume with the radio switched off but, I think, with the ignition on. I found this by inadvertently turning the bong up to a deafening level for a few days until I found what I had done wrong. I'm not sure if this affects phone volume though. :)

It does, unless you have had the bong turned off. If somebody is faint on the car phone and you turn up the volume, expect to be deafened when you next turn on the ignition.
