Hi, I have had my fabia vrs around 8 months now.. havernt had the best of look with it I must say, been back for the gearbox rattling over uneven surfaces/pot holes & speed bumps and new engine end of December (old one blew up on me)

when I took it in about the gearbox rattles at first they couldn't hear anything even on a test drive when I could hear it over nearly every bump in the road, annoyed as I was driven away abit disappointed! Returned again a month later with the rattles getting worse, they could hear it this time so I left it with them for around a week or more, was told they'd updated the software etc etc which should cure it, minutes down the road from collecting it rattle rattle then my engine blew up around the middle of december, new engine fitted no problem however since then I've had the usual gearbox rattle now a judder when slowly pulling away from traffic light/junctions etc & both my rear shockers squeak very annoyingly in the wet!

Is anyone else having gearbox problems and suspension squeks?

Hi had the same annoying judder when pulling away in my Jetta dsg. This was from new it's a 2010 model. I kept taking it back to the dealer and was told all sorts including software updates. It feels like a contaminated clutch plate if it was a manual gearboxed car. After around 8 visits and some 8k miles with the judder the dealer finally replaced the clutch. Now two and a bit years later and 90k miles all is fine.

Yeah I have been told the same thing with the rattles which are quite embarrassing bit hey-ho, as for the shockers there just a pain in the backside, in the cold & dry there fine, good old British weather comes down and the squeaks appear annoyingly! I may return again to raise the issue with the juddering when pulling away and deal with the rattling

I don't understand what kind of "gearbox" rattles you are referring to. The only rattles I do hear occasionally come from door/glovebox plastics.

Also, were you given an explanation on how/why the engine "blew"?

Yes the car went into limp mode on the motorway luckily a mile from my dealer, as I exited the motorway slip road at the junction the car had one hell of a misfire and cut out as I drove into the forecourt, they performed a compression test and found cylinder 3 had no compression what so ever, they removed the head to find the spark plug electrode had snapped off somehow wedged itself behind a valve which stretched causing it to slap the piston, the boar in the chamber were badly scoared too resulting in them removing and refitting a whole brand new engine.

agreed therattle is supposed to be a characteristic, has been done to death on seat forums, and has been explained as above. (dirty hari) but to be fair, I can never hear any rattles on mine...

Just about everything rattles squeeks and groans (are they all female....?) on mine, I guess it is all part of the pleasure of ownership...

I've ran the car on Shell V-Power from day one, nothing else

My shocks or something in the rear started squeaking but put this down to the weather and gave it a good jet wash to clean out any crap from salt etc - all fine now. Only DSG noise is on bad roads in 1st and 2nd and most others have this fault as well as VW saying its a characteristic of the box.

Yeah I thought about getting it on the ramp at work n cleaning them out n lube it up with some sticky grease

Yeah 1st & 2nd have rattled for awhile, however now it judders when pulling away, more so when I turn out of a junction

Best get it looked at again, it may need an update again?

I know if they take it out and nothing is wrong you will get charged!

It is a quirk of the box. Roads in Swansea are rubbish so I do hear it now and again in lower gears at slow speeds. Still works fine and it's done it from day one. Creaking rear suspension I did have briefly when it was cold but that's gone now too.

should see the state of the roads up around Manchester they are killers, speed bumps are small mountains to climb, that's probably why I hear the rattles more than most, it's the juddering mainly I'm bothered about now and wondered if anyone else had/have the same problem

Suspension squeaks gone now since I clean the suspension channels out
