17" spiders for Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

I picked up some octavia vrs spiders last night, from an ebay trader I won them from.

Wondered if anyone can help me with a few questions ?

Firstly what would the insurance impact be ? Is it worth me just running it through comparison sites as my insurance is due in about a month ! What kind of price differences have people seen through just the 17" spider alloys added ?

Secondly, what is the difference between choosing the 215 or 205's, just wondered what the arguments for and against might be, e.g. comfort or noise level of the tyre, wear, and impact to speedo

Thinking of getting some tyres from camskill, the toyo's

Thanks in advance

205/40 will be the prime choice for spiders as their only 7" wide....

For 7.5" wide alloys id pick 215/40's as the 205's can look stretched a tad

depending on how old you are/previous driving experiance etc depends on how much it will effect you.

With me (Admiral) it added 40-50 quid to my premium, its the same with suspension changes too, but when you start adding remaps/turbos/fmic then it gets costly lol.

My speedo is now spot on with my sat nav, i run 17 spiders too with vredestien tyres.

How do you report these as ? Wider tyres / alloys (unlikely, they aren't really are they given the correct tyre choice)

I'd put it in the comparison sight as "alloy wheels"...although on gocompare I guess calling them "optional extra" might be pushing it....would skoda themselves offer to fit them as an optional extra or would they refuse stating its only for the Octy ?

Their prices are crap anyway, meerkats seem to be cheaper

id put alloy wheels mate, insurance will do anyfin to get out of paying of a claim, when i had my crash they were checking everything did my tits in but if your legal then you got nothing to hide!

yeah compare the market cheaper, im changing with to elephant when renewal comes as they are cheaper than admiral even though they are the same company lol....

I was thinking that the insurance would make it prohibitive / not sensible, got a quote as a standard base without the spiders for around £320 with AXA but realised it was without protected NCB either

Once I put the NCB protection on I'm getting £360 and above

With the comparison site on declared alloys starts at about £420 reaching silly prices

Called adrian flux couldnt be much use getting around £600

So Im amazed that I found a lowest quote with £346 per year with protected NCB and declared alloys with echoice(morethan) !

Good eh ?

Its basic, no legal/travel crap but could be a lot worse

Just wondering whether declared "Alloy wheels" is enough, as they have a long list of options including "wider tyres/wheels/alloy wheels (non-standard)/ alloys (optional)" etc

I'd have thought "alloy wheels" would be enough but I suppose its best to call them to confirm ?

This is a list of the choices:

Alloy wheels

Alloy wheels (non standard)

Alloy wheels (optional extra)

Wider Tyres

WIder Wheels

I guess going from 6.5J to 7.5J (i think) does that make them wider ? Would I have to declare a second modifcation of wider tyres as well ? This insurance lot is just so confusing

205/40 will be the prime choice for spiders

Yes, they are the best size match for the original tyre and rim combination. That's what I went for.

Do you mind if I ask, did you insure online or on the phone ?

Im just wondering if it was online if you knew which option was the "right" one. I think for the moment I will wait to a call to Admiral or a call back from Sky ins.

Adrian Flux wanted almost twice what the lowest "normal" quote I can find which is about £320, obviously I'm not in their target audience besides my 15 yrs driving approachign 39 y/o with 9+ yrs no claims, no claims accidents convictions etc etc and standard car but for Skoda alloys ?? Fair play though the guy on the phone was straight about it.

I don't understand these insurance companies!?!

Your taking original skoda 16" alloys wheels off and putting original skoda 17" alloys on, what's an inch?? (Please, no ask your misses jokes)

If you put 205/40's on the 17's, road contact is pretty much identical.

How can they justify more money out of us?

When I phoned up my insures to get quotes on spiders they didn't really. care due to them being oem skoda wheels. Think it added a few pounds on or sonething silly. That's with admiral

Mine costs more because I have 0 no claims and 1 claim against me plus I'm 21 lol I understand where your coming from because they are oem quality wheels, I should of asked about tht reali but I did it online.

It seems calling and talking in person is the way.

Called after decent quotes from AXA and they said its not relevant really as they are OEM wheels not non-standard wheels like Halfords.

They are only concerned about the replacement of them

I wouldn't be claiming over £1000 for the alloys and beside I'd have my originals anyway if it came to loss, but to not be out of pocket I might consider claiming for replacing alloys although that has to be weighed up against the long term with the impact on your insurance for claiming too - could work out cheaper not too !

Hi i have the fabia mk1 1.4 16v at 16''s spiders.they wear 205/45/16.

I need to change to 17''s. i found vw's ''santa monica''

post-94738-0-33072100-1384974129_thumb.jpg

they wear 205/40/17.

I see to a tyre size calculator that the correct tyres are 205/50/17 or 215/45/17.

Why the 205/40/17 are most wearable?

Holy thread revival batman....its a thread over a year old one of mine!

New threads are free you know, you can make your own with no penalty whatsoever .....

Its because they are a bit cheaper and closest to the rolling diameter. Thread solved
