Tesco Insurance refusing roof payout!

Hi and first post.

Had my roomster 3 from new and curretnly insured with Tesco.

Got hit by a stone on the motorway and the roof glass is cracking.

Tesco say as it is a "sunroof" it is not covered by them.

My manual says it is a "panaromic roof" and I am about to challenge them on this.

Has anyone has the same issue please and what was the outcome as if it goes on I am involving the Federation of Small Business of which I am a member.

Have you a picture edit got one here http://www.skoda.com.au/roomster/gallery-pictures.aspx , so why did you ring them and not someone like Autoglass they deal direct and would have more know-how if it is covered in your glass policy, you will be covered, but likely to be just a normal claim you should ring someone like autoglass they will have more knowledge of this

This is from Tesco car insurance website

If the windscreen or any window glass in the car is broken during the period of insurance we will pay the cost of repairing or replacing it. We will also pay for any repair to the bodywork that has been damaged by broken glass from the windscreen or windows.

They even tell you to ring a specific number for sunroof damage

(for damage to or as a result of damage to windscreens, windows, sunroof etc)

I didn't see any exclusion based on where the glass is on the car and them calling it a sunroof means it is covered in their policy document.

The glass cover only applies to windows and windscreens (Autoglass do deal with a broken sunroof but it is treated as a claim). You need to claim under your comprehensive insurance and it will affect your NCB.

I've met someone who has claimed from Tesco for a pano roof but they did explicitly declare it as an option when they took out the policy (he previously had stone damage that was not covered by a different insurer).

If it's not covered as glass (which it isn't on most policies) then as it's the roof it would come as a bodywork (read full) insurance claim.

So regardless of how it works, no company would ever cover it under the windscreen glass excess.

It's a reason I avoid them like the plague.

Have you gone to Tesco and made a claim under your comprehensive cover?

If you have and Tesco have refused, what reason did they give?

I had a cracked panaramoric sunroof on my Roomster 3 about four years ago. Mine was replaced under the windscreen cover of my policy. I did speak with the insurance company first of all to check I was covered. They told me yes, and to use Autoglass. Contacted Autoglass who said they couldn't replace the sunroof! After going back to insurance company said I could use National Windscreens. They were able to the job within a few days.

The same insurance company refused to cover the rear windscreen on my hubbie's previous car, a BMW Z3, as it was plastic and not glass. We could process it as a claim, even though the cost to replace was £25 cheaper than his policy excess would have been! After lots of phone calls and arguing with insurer they finally agreed that it would be covered under windscreen cover if it was deemed that it hadn't been damaged through normal wear and tear. We got it replaced under the windscreen cover.
