Windscreen

Featured Replies

Had my new Fabia Estate a week or so and I am puzzled by the thin black line down the centre of the screen. It does not go all the way to the bottom, just past halfway or so. Has anyone else spotted this, or knows what it is for?

I've seen this, and I've got a funny feeling it's what happens when the wipers have been used on a dirty-ish screen. i.e. it's where the left wiper stops wiping. The reason I think that's what is happening is because I don't recall noticing it all the time, just occasionally.

Or I could be completely talking out of my arse, and it's some advanced feature.

It is an aerial.

It is an aerial.

There you go. I should have kept quiet. It must be only visible in certain lighting. That's my excuse.

it is indeed the diversity radio aerial.

So there are 2 aerials; one in the front screen and 1 on the roof at the rear? What is a diversity aerial, by the way?

Yeah aerial Diversity aerials ensure the best reception quality even when the available radio signal is poor. High-rise buildings and hills reflect the electromagnetic waves from radio and television transmitters. For this reason, an aerial receives not just one signal, but also staggered signal reflections, which may impair reception quality. This is referred to as multi-path interference. With the Diversity Aerial system, the radio signal is received by more than one aerial (up to four) and the receiver filters out the signal interference by intelligently combining the signals from the different aerials.
