Vrs drinking oil

Featured Replies

I don't want this to be another post about the oil consumption but I'm just wondering we're I stand on refusing a new engine because I have had the oil breather pipe fix and it's goin back in nxt sat to have the consumption test done again and im wondering if I can refuse the new engine under the sale of goods act 1979 and hand the car back? ( It was a ex demo car)

I had my consumption test done after the breather mod and I am happy with the result, hardly any oil used in 168 miles, so I spoke with SUK today, they said keep an eye on things and if oil usage goes up again just call them, everything is logged and should the problem re occur they will look at it again.

The New Engine will be a fix..So why not?

Ok, the fix was done 3,500 miles ago and it's gone back to what it was doing before the fix, (oil full to orange warning light in 500 miles) my concern is about the warrenty and would like a new 3 year warrenty on the engine just as peice of mind, I asked them if It did not work then would I get a new engine and they said possibly so for the inconvenience and extra cost of buying oil (I knew it would use some, but not that much) , I would like a new warrenty on the engine just as a good will gesture, because at the end of the day they have sold me a car that is not fit for purpose. (Breaking the sale of goods act)

if you get a new engine surely that engine gets a full 3 year warranty since it is in fact NEW. Id argue that for sure.

You would like to think a new three year warranty would come with a new engine but apparently it doesn't. You only get the remainder of the original warranty on the car. I have hopefully negotiated an additional year from Skoda UK but am still waiting to get this in writing.

This is my point exactly. Can u let me knw how that goes on please, thank you!

The oil breather fix made no difference on my vRS. Oil consumption was just within limits up to 9,000 miles, then got worse. The oil breather mod and ECU update was done at 12,000 miles. Have driven another 1,000 miles and back to same consumption rate as before the modification. I can find very little evidence that the oil breather is the solution. The local dealer has carried out an oil consumption check and I am now waiting for a replacement engine.

I think that it would be difficult to reject the car at this point. You are obliged to give them a reasonable attempt to fix the problem. If you decide to reject the car your negotiation has to be through the dealer rather than Skoda UK.

I have been told by Skoda UK that the replacement engine is a refurbished unit. It will be a base engine meaning that all the ancillaries are transferred over. Brand new engines are only usually offered if the car has clocked up less than 500 miles. As Jerry says, extended warrantees are not normally given, although I will argue the case for an extra year on the engine.

The breather fix did nothing to my oil problems and it is going in on the 7th Jan for a new engine. I'm not too concerned about future problems with the engine as I will replace the car after 3 years anyway.

What do you mean refurbished unit? I had a problem with a 2009 fiesta and they told me they are putting pre tested injectors in after they tried brand new ones ( dint work) and the car was brand new so I refused it under the sale of goods act and they orderd me a new one.

It is normal practice for the replacement engine to be an exchange unit, i.e. factory rebuilt. If none are available then it will be a new engine off the production line. You will be very lucky if you manage to get a replacement car at this stage. Have you spoken to customer services yet at Skoda UK?

Ok then, no iv not spoken to them yet, as the dealer has been very helpful so no need to speak to them yet. I'm leaving them till the dealership start giving me problems

I asked about a car swap to replace our fabia, I was offered a trade in and I had a cash sum to pay for the use I have had from the car, 5k miles on a 2 year old car.

I am going to keep the car until the end of my PCP if it is still using oil then I will chop it in, problem gone!

All car rejections are done through SUK the dealer is just an outlet for SUK products and you will need to speak with SUk regarding your rejection.

Ok then, thanks for the info, the ford dealer just back down straight away,

That is the opposite of what Phil at SUK told me. He said I had to go through the dealer to reject the car. He also said that there is no set formula for calculating the deduction for your use of the car up to the date of rejection. He implied that the rejection process would not be an easy ride. I've decided to accept a replacement engine.

What really gets me is the inconsistency of information we get from these guys at Skoda customer services. I have no complaints against the dealers who have always been very helpful. Skoda UK will give you the impression that you are the only person in the country with the problem. You suggested earlier that a group of us with oil problems should drive up to the SUK office for a face to face meeting to put over our dissatisfaction. I'm thinking now that wouldn't be such a bad idea.

A rough count of Briskoda vRS owners reporting oil consumption issues over the past few months is at least 45. A third of these have had or are waiting for replacement engines.

I would get your Trading Standards advice then Legal Advice before agreeing to anything.

A replacement engine should do the job.

The argument over the Warranty covering that engine needs resolved and to be in writing.

Any rejection of the vehicle and financial agreement also needs putting in writing and from Skoda UK,

they are the people responsible for the UK Warranty and the faulty Manufacturing, components or Design & as such need to deal with you.

I was told by the dealer and SUK a lad called Craig that the dealer is just an outlet selling Skoda products and any rejection will be dealt with by SUK.

I hope you get it sorted out though, I have resigned to the fact it will always use oil and when the time comes I will swap it for something else, as a matter of fact I got a letter from the dealer today letting me know how good that new car feeling is and they recommend I call in as the time is right for that new car smell again! I am sure I can buy a new car smell air freshener as it aint getting changed this year.

Bump for vrskeith.

Try and fix the Rally Day at Skoda HQ when the Brand Director is on site

George you can set up the invite.

Can you arrange a stand with replenishment oil,so that owners can get home without an orange or red lighting appearing.

no sy only a year thats what they told me ive argued thats wrong its there problem but they say only a year if this engine goes tits up after a year I'll be back.

sy, sold the vRS a good while back after an engine rebuild, and then went to a Focus ST.  A good move as it turned out.
