5 fault codes!!!

Featured Replies

Anyone else had this? any ideas?

Car 02 1.8T elegance (octavia) 45K

Problems

1) Intermittent cold start problem - no power. Restart ignition, power returns.

2) Intermittent hesitation when accelerating gently in 1st or second when car is cold.

Took it for a long run the other day, after 20 miles accelerated gently away from a roundabout and felt a slight miss. The engine light (EPC) came on but the car still drove fine. As I was only a mile from the dealer I drove steadily down the road until I came to a roundabout, here the car lost all power and would barely idle. Switched the ignition on and off and the car ran ok again

2 weeks ago there were no fault codes, this time there were 5 recorded.

17579 Angle sens - unplaus signal

17705 connection charge-throttle valve pressure drop

17950 Angle sensor-1- for throttle drive - unplausible signal

01314 Engine control module read fault memory sporadic

01317 Control module with indicator unit in instrument panal insert - no comunication sporadic

The dealers checked intercooler hoses, throltle position and, looking at the printout, performed all sorts of checks. They found no faults so reset the ECU and gave me the car back :(

My warranty runs out in 6 weeks so I need this sorting sharpish :)

Any ideas? The dealer has none.

Possibly a faulty ECU power supply realy? Located in engine bay on right as you look at it under a plastic cover, there are 2 relays here. I think it is the grey one.

Thanks for the reply. It does sound like a gremlin.

I've posted a fault with my Octavia which is a TDi but bear with me, I have power loss problems and someone posted a response copied below that it could be the turbo and mentions angles etc not being right - bit too techy for me but may be his information could help from reading the error codes you listed.

May be that this is about as useful as a chocolate fire guard but it my help

If you want to see more details on my problem it's now on page two, headed Octavia TDi Power Loss problem.

Rgds

"It could be a turbo problem. The 110 has a mechanism for altering the turbo vane angle which affects its' power output. These sometimes stick providing too much pressure, the ECU logs this as I think 'regulating pressure limit surpassed' and effectively shuts down the turbo. We had one at work show the symptons which you desribe, and for diagnostic purposes we swapped with another one the air flow sensor, solenoid valves on the bulk head, sensor in the intercooler and the ECU - didn't make any difference at all. A Skoda exchange turbo cured the problem."

Cheers, not sure if the 1.8T has a similar designed turbo?

The 1.8T has a fixed vane turbo.

EPC and Traction controll light came on again last night, even though the ASR was off. The car seemed to have less power but would still run.

Pulled up ,the ignition off and the EPC light went off. Switched off and on again and the traction control light went off. The car now seems to run fine again

Going to pop into the dealers again at lunch but I am not optomistic :(

Could the loss of power be the traction control coming on in error and cutting fuel to the engine?

Will mention the relay sugestion.

It does sound like a dodgy connection to the ECU to me...

maybe take the plug out and check/clean the contacts?

They have found a leak in one of the turbo hoses. 3 days to order, hope it cures it.

Seems fixed now :)

Turned out to be a trapped wire to the ignition system

Not as reliable as I was lead to believe

I have a problem with my Skoda Octavia 2004 when I started the car the ignition cut out and all the lights in the dashboard weren't on. I have taken it to a local dealer but they are unable to find any fault. Has anyone got any ideas.

Holy thread revival Batman

If the car won't even start how can the dealer say they can't find a fault with it!?

Sounds like it's going into limp mode. Should be throwing a fault code. Has the garage checked for codes?
