Induction kit

Featured Replies

Hi

Anyone running an induction kit on their 1.2TSI 105? More specifically a forge kit.

What differences have you noticed? Drop in fuel economy? Better running? More of a growl?

I've been quoted £190 and it's a cone.

I was also looking at the ITG kit too as I have seen that on the Vrs but not sure it would fit the 1.2.

Anyone got any answers?

Jon

Do you have a pic of your engine cover/bay?  We should be able to see if it fits quite easily

These are the only pics I have at the moment. Hope they show enough and come out well if not I will take some more tomorrow.

Cheers

I saw a video of someone fitting a ITG kit to their Vrs and that is the kind of set up I fancied

tbh, id need to see the whole engine bay to be able to give an accurate opinion, but first impression is the air intake delivers the air to the front of the engine (the vRS does it to the rear of the engine bay) so i dont think it wil fit tbh.

This is the thread I have seen

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/index.php?/topic/255892-Installing-ITG-Induction-Kit---MK2-Fabia-vRS-TSi-**GUIDE**

Things looked similar and the cold air seemed to be fed from in intake at the front.

This is the vRS - Notice the pipe coming from the front slam panel, this is the Cold air feed.  The filtered air travels out the top left of the box (where the silver spring clip is) and around the rear of the engine bay bfore coming around to the front of the engine bay.

Looking at the 1.2TSI you can see the cold air feed from the front slamp panel at the bottom, then the filtered air coming out of the top left of the airbox before coming directly back towards the front of the car.

I see that now. ..didn't look at the feed into the engine, getting too excited lol.

I'm guessing this setup would be the type I would need. ..

I'm running a K&N cone filter in place of the standard air box and using the original pipework - fresh air intake still in situ. It makes an interesting noise when accelerating ( very throttle responsive) but nothing out of the ordinary when cruising at constant speed.

I don't think there is any great difference in performance or fuel consumption but its definitely no worse and it is fun to drive! The K&N is a generic part which I already had on the shelf so I can't be precise about which one it is. It does have a tapping point for the small hose that goes to the widget on the cam cover ( what is that?).

Hi roadster

Thanks for that info. Do you have a photo of your engine bay with the cone fitted? I'm guessing you have removed the air box?

Not sure what the tapping point is. ... possibly a breather pipe?

Thanks again.

I've fitted a cone onto the intake. .... big difference in sound. You get a definite rumble and you can hear the turbo spooling up, you can also hear the dump valve at the top of the rev range. Pleased with the difference it has made so will save up and get a more expensive one. ..probably just a universal K&N cone unless anyone has any suggestions, I've moved away from the whole kit now as the kitty is getting empty.

Have you got any pictures of this mate?

Just realised I never posted a pic, sorry.

I have just put a new one on, excuse the cable ties and blue cloth over the old filter. I'm looking for something more discreet.

Do you not think you are losing performance/efficiency taking hot air from that position.?

(if you run without a bonnet, maybe not)

Maybe it has not been an issue up to now, but might be as the weather warms up.

I never thought about it to be honest.

I have noticed a drop in mpg recently, before I put the new one on (but it just replaced the exact same one) and immediately after I changed back to my summer tyres, I assumed it was due to the tyre change as my winters were 15s and summers standard 17s

Do you think the tyres would cause a drop or is it likely to be the filter and the hot air source? The temp has gone up a little recently.

Any advice would be appreciated George I'm not familiar with these things.

The Filter will not be getting cool enough air,  you would need a Cool Feed.

on a vRS on days at around 20*oC at 70 mph, it can be near 40*oC behind the Battery.

Pay attention this week,

& then next week the weather will be much cooler, so you will see.

You will need a better arrangement through the summer IMO.

So would it be worth connecting the OEM filter up again and checking the mpg?

Yes.

Thanks George, will give it a go at the weekend.

Yeah that position does not look ideal if I'm honest. You need to try and run it towards the front of the engine, preferably just behind the headlight as apparently it is a low pressure zone.

Sounds like hard work to me lol. I will see if there is an easy way to do it but I doubt it.

Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk

Actually, that might be a high-pressure zone (which is what you want). The oncoming air would be hitting the wind-screen. It wouldn't work for me, though, given the ambient temperatures I have to put up with. Have you noticed a drop in performance as the car gets warmer? Maybe you could fashion some sort of heat-shield for the filter?

I'm going to have a look and see tomorrow. I wish they made a kit for the 1.2tsi but apparently not :-(

Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk

I thought they did make one? Sure ive seen one with an induction kit on.

The only one I've seen is fabricated one iirc
