Meteor Grey ? ! ? !

Featured Replies

This is playing with my head, would welcome anybody's thoughts on this....

I have been fussing over colours since the mk2 vrs came out and when I saw the platin grey/black roof and boots for the first time 5 weeks ago I knew straight away that was what it had to be!

After waiting 4 weeks and 6 days for my new vrs to arrive at local dealer I finally got that phone call to say its here... but... but... it's not the colour you ordered urr....

I had spent 5 weeks lusting over platin grey/black combo (see pic) and the but was meteor grey/black roof and boots like the fabia reaction in the show room. The order form was correct but platin grey has been discontinued and orders for this colour have been automatically over ridden and delivered in meteor without the dealer having been forewarned until the car arrived, or so I was told. :wall:

Now my dilemma,  i'm not under any obligation to take the car but I cant quite get my head around this battle ship grey primer colour and cant find any images online of this combo to ponder over, the other pre-spec'd cars the dealer has in the pipeline all have options on them I would never go for and I wouldn't want to part with money for not to mention colours I don't like, so its looking like a factory order in brilliant silver as this is the only other colour I would go for with roof and boots to match but my mk1 was silver and that's just boring and some 12+ weeks away. Or because I now need a car as sold my mk1 couple weeks ago, take the refund of my deposit and go buy a second hand oil burner in any colour and drive the  :swear: out of it because my heart isn't in it....  :@

Thanks for any thoughts in advance!

check out the colour in the flesh first... my first vRS was green with white wheels.... I didn't fancy the combo, but had a list of cars to see, when I saw the car in the flesh i bought it! was miles better than i imagined... my second vRS I chose as black , black wheels ect ..... the pic is what you wanted right? do you have and details of whatthe car you ordered looks like?

I think it's a fantastic colour! It,takes a bit of getting used to the attention it attracts ,but it's a rarity on the road!

Think you should definitely stick with it, personally I think it looks better than the platin.

looks great (if it had eibachs on! lol)

Sorry wrightcnc, I saw one up close in my local dealer and I wasn't taken.

Might be because the showroom model's paint was in awful condition but the meteor grey showcased every swirl.

That said, as Sharkrider says the Rallye Green divides opinion, go with what YOU think bud.

Its beautifull...plus it wont look dirty as dirt and dust are the sam color ase the car...(the roof will look dirty though)

looks great (if it had eibachs on!

Lol everyone to their own, I'm not fussed about the ride height. When you compare it to the BMW mini's, it's not that bad. Besides, I don't enjoy a harder ride, not good for my back.

Wouldn't mind those vents....oh and wouldn't mind reaching out of the driver's window lol

Platin Grey looks fantastic in the pic you posted.

Not taken with the Meteor Grey personally...(apologies to anyone with that colour)

I would refuse delivery, and re-order one in a colour you like (silver looks a bit boring as you said) and buy a cheap runaround to put you on until it arrives.

What a shame though, as that Platin Grey does look beautiful :(

I think the Matt Meteor Grey looks good and its a bit different to the standard metallic grey which lots of people seem to have. I'd have a look in person and see what you think hopefully it will be better than you expect :)

It is not Matt though, it is Solid & Gloss. (non metallic)

They really do look bad when dirty IMO, as in with winter road grime, they look Matt, or as still in Grey Primer.

I have seen this week a Reaction & a vRS in Meteor Grey and dirty, being driven on salted roads, so you can expect that,

they looked sharn.

Meteor Grey, not the best colour around and certainly not on the Fabia, a nice Audi A5 or A7 in Meteor Grey with 18/19" SportLine Alloys, that's different.

Thanks for all the thoughts, my head has been spinning most of the week on this,

-

I went in to see the car when it arrived on Monday this week and there was a fabia reaction in the showroom in the exact colour combo and it didn't impress, so they didn't unwrap the delivery protective film off the vrs.

-

And yes the pic on my OP was the colour of what I had ordered. I took that pic myself, it was the dealers ex-demo waiting to be collected by it's lucky new owner, that was the car I wanted to buy but when we went to see it, the dealer was like, 'Oh, we sold it last week, the guy is coming to collect it today' they were still advertising it as a saleable car, then we got talking about new an that's what got agreed, a pre-spec'd car in that colour combo with sat-nav available quite quickly, was really looking forward to getting it and IMO that colour combo looks better still in the flesh than that pic portrays!!!

-

The meteor grey is like Marmite, it shows every finger print and scratch ten fold, winter road grim would have it looking like a teenagers project car still in use for daily commuting IMO, I think a 21 year old me would have probably gone for it but I'm now 31 so as platin is not available silver is next choice... I think... and use the money from black roof and wheels to spec some other bits inside for me to play with.

-

 Sleepy silver has its appeal for lack of attention, being relatively timeless and none offensive even if its not your personal choice.

-

So here's the proposed spec: Brilliant silver with matching roof and boots, sat-nav (ordinal order had this), climate air-con, telephone/Bluetooth with MFSW for radio/phone and leather pack, front centre arm rest (ordinal order had this but retro fitted by dealer at silly cost-but I wanted it so would save having it spec'd from factory), floor mats,  sunglasses storage and dealer fit mud flaps all round..... Then the real options start! Eibach springs or similar, rarb and braided brake lines to be fitted by me followed by a track-day to run it in.

-

Like the colour in your original post the others look like it still needs painting (primer coat) saw one last week at the dealers, in that primer colour and it just does not suit the Fabia IMHO.

Only you know what floats your boat!

Can't understand why skoda/vag have removed the option of the platin grey on the vrs, can't find a second hand one either, the pic in my OP is the only one I have ever seen in that colour combo.

There is a 13 plate vRS in 'Steel Grey' advertised in Edinburgh, says 950 miles in the advert,

i assume its a Demonstrator, or was..

probably can be had at a good price, if they are not getting it sold.  £13795 'Asking Price' in the advert.

(just a Ryanair or Jet2 flight into Edinburgh

& i will happily drive you to the Dealers. 'West End Garage Edinburgh')

Personally i have not seen 'Platin Grey' as an option on a Fabia vRS,

i have seen they various colours of Silver to metallic Grey in the flesh.

PS Not a Black roof in the picture, IMO nicer without.

PPS It annoys me they still list them as having 'Front Fog Lights', & when you tell them they have not,

a salesperson will argue that they do.

I was told by the dealer that platin grey and steel grey are one and the same colour just that skoda call it platin and vw call it steel but that could well be a load of tosh...

Sk4gw, that car has been on sale for quite a while, in fact most second hand vrs on line seem to be sitting around for quite a while, especially if out of warranty, I guess the oil problems and fear of dsg problems potentially being costly makes them a risky second hand buy but possibly a cracking deal to be had if you haggle and get a good one! Not what we've all come to expect from vag group sadly though....

The Skoda UK site configurator currently has it as 'Steel Grey'.

That car will no doubt have been up for sale since they registered it as a 2013 because they had it in stock and not booked/sold.

They get their Demonstrators cheap & can not sell for 3 months because of that.

Then they like their good profit, which is why dealers are sitting with Ex Demonstrators at too high a Asking Price,

they want their pie and eat it.

Many now need to wake up and smell the coffee and shift them before 14 plates come out.

So a proper bargain can be had for someone interested in a almost no miles car, if you can get the Dealer to sell at a fair price.

There are the 98 or so vRS nationwide on Autotrader (EDIT 100 advertised tonight.)and quite a few are selling and have been selling.

There has been a turn over of them, some have gone to auction and sold for sweeties, then gone back on autotrader.

there are some there not to be touched with a barge pole..

Funnily if there are only 20 S2000's in the UK. 5 are advertised on Autotrader and one new car that is clearly, except to the Dealer, not a S2000.

I'll take a primer grey vrs any day.

That's very smart ,just needs a black roof and silver wheels to finish it off.

The beauty of getting the car already fitted with Dark Chrome Gigaro is if you prepare them when new you could just Plasti Dip them Silver for around £20, or black if that is what you want. you can even keep the Silver edge.

and they may stay protected, until you want to peel it off and reveal the as new wheels when selling.

(As long as you greased the inner centres/hub)

I like Grapos car, nice colour comination for a hatch, subtle, classy & stealth.

Metor grey does seem to be getting very Marmite responses I love it reminds me of Glance grey on smarts and quite like the primer colour thought about doing wheels in a similar colour. But if its not growing on you and your not keen its probably best to reorder in a colour you can live with plus gives you the chance to order different options, I can vouch for the heated seats :).  or ask for some more discount.

It reminds me of the storm grey on the Clio its a bit Marmite but I do like the steel grey
