spark plugs and air filter

Hi

I think this topic may have been discussed to death. But my vrs is near 30k now still on orginial plugs and air filter. With this milage im assuming changing these now will slightly improve the car. Must be better for the car than waiting for 40k. Any thoughts guys?

It's low cost and for me I think a good move.

These cars can be a little rough on their spark plugs and the filter should be inexpensive.

I waited to 40k and mine looked like I "had been getting my money's worth out of them" at the end (quote from a fellow briskodian.

Note: if you plan to do this yourself I suggest you invest in a coil pack removal tool from Schwaben.  Awesome GTI have these and will save you much swearing.

Some will quote around £90 to change the plugs and thats crazy money. See what price they quote.

The Air Filter is around £19, if you can do that yourself.

?Are you going to get your Brake Fluid changed?

Skoda National Pricing is £45, nice if they will do that cheaper.

Could always get your service done as Skoda would do it (no sparks until 40k etc)

then buy the filter from Skodaparts, Spark Plugs from ECP using Briskie 25% discount and then get a cheap and friendly independant to switch your spark plugs.

Well it went in this afternoon on the off chanve for warrenty work new side repeater so not much. Ive had the plugs and airfilter chnaged to. Not happy the car is hesitating so i took it back they no other plugs until monday engine manage light flashing. So i was sent away in it and told to drive it carefully in which the epc light came on and lost power. Pulled over to reset and drove away still hesitated and engine managment light flashing. I give it more beans pulls well but no light on all the time. What could have possibly happened in changin 4 plugs. It was running sweet as a nut 2 hours ago. Im proper not happy

First off,

'They' are not always good at putting in the correct plugs.  do you have an invoice with the Plugs Code. on it?

Very important,

Do not go giving it any beans if the lights do show..

It might stay on 'Get Home' mode anyway.

Or are you saying it is all OK now.??

Sitting running stationery in a workshop, it can then put on the EPC or Emission Light,

then give a nice clear out, and then no lights.

So was it the EPC light or the 'Control System for Exhaust'   The 'Engine Shape' Light., Warning Light,

Sometimes its one or other, or it can be both that come on.

Not well at all. The epc light came on on the way home on motorway. With the engine light flashing. Once i turned it of and started it again all lights where off then i progressivly gave it a bit more and then the engine management light stayed on. I pulled over turned it off and back on light still on. Pulls ok but ive not pushed iy hard to see if it hesitates. Once home ive turned it off and back on 5 min later light still on. The part code on invoice is 03c905601b what ever that means.

Could the ecu be learning due to new parts

Yes that is the Spark Plugs,  'Long Life'.    Markings 'NGK VW AG'   RRP £12.16 each.

Did they let you see the old ones or comment on them??

So was that new Spark Plugs and Filter Today?

If the car plays up, call Skoda Assist, and be sure the guy does not Clear any Fault Codes.

Suspect might be Coil Damaged,

plug gap comes set, by should still be checked.

Best not mess about, and have no one else touch it,

but a call to Skoda Assist is handy in you get a Second Opinion from someone that has sometimes better training than the Trained Technician.

But when i pushed it it bogged down and the light flashinh again so i came home. Im due to take back to skoda on monday where they are goi g to put a new set of plugs in. What will skoda assist do on the phone.

Not on the phone. you phone them,

the man comes out in his Orange RAC Van, or possibly a Grey one,

plugs in his reader, reads the Faults if any, Mis-Fire Cylinder 3 for example.

Then he removes the plugs and has a looky see maybe.

You have your car going properly before Monday.

Wonderful Service and from time to times picks up on the obvious errors that the Dealerships Technicians in a clean warm well lit Workshop seem not able to.

Could be,

should not need to be.

I change plugs in a vRS after carefully removing the Ignition Coils.

Carefully remove the plugs, inspect,  then replace the new ones, inspecting them first, just incase..

Refit the Coils with care.

Remove tools, close bonnet. take for a warm up,

then boot it hard and see how it is going.

All basic and simple stuff.

I think he will have a Coil & plugs in the van.

He should not need them, but he will see, (might be a She)

and then you will know that no plug has been cross threaded, or a coil damaged.

Quite an independent opinion.  If you have the time, worth trying IMO.

I ll ring them but how will it work as the skoda dealer is at fault would the warrenty still be covered by skoda or isit the dealers responsbility? What time does skoda assist operate to? I ve had a couple of beers now so i wont be able to test drive it until the morning. Or i could ring up tomoz if they come out straight away.

If a Dealership Workshop Employee breaks a car, then they are Insured for that.

Maybe give them a call tonight and see about a response/call out  tomorrow.

Saturday morning there will be all those Flat Battery call outs, so a busy time.

but they will get to you.

'You Drove away from the house and its lights came on again'.

Need the car Saturday night and going someplace on Sunday.

The car can be taken to the Dealers by them if required and Skoda Assist can arrange the replacement/Courtesy car.

Good that someone else has seen the car and made a report. !!!

Yes the warranty is covered, you have to Service according to Skoda Technical Guidelines.

Proper Fluids and on time etc.

A Skoda Dealership doing Servicing and Maintenance before the Scheduled time is a Preventative and sensible option taken by car owners.

Reducing the risk of Breakdowns and problems,

Who is better to trust than a Skoda Trained and Qualified Technician????

'They never said,

'Sorry we can not do Servicing or do Maintenance on your car sir, it will Invalidate your Skoda Warranty. we are handless and hopeless!'

Your car has to be on the Public Highway or some place open to the public for the RAC to respond.

They arrange a Hire Car for 48 Hours, that is long enough until the Dealer can arrange one if required.

Must head,

all the best.

Further to the issue skoda assist have fobbed me off. Basically as the em light only comes intermittantly under power it can still be safely driven in their eyes. So they have suggested i waiy until monday and run it back to the main dealer. Oh well.........i ll see what monday concludes.

They can say that if they like.

I know the Skoda Assist Booklet back to front.

If i was setting off on a trip today and it is the start of the holidays, i would not cancel the trip when i paid and received a Warranty & Skoda Assistance.

& would not set off on a trip with a Car in 'Limp Mode' 'which allows you to get to a Specialist Garage/Repairer.

But then its a Busy Weekend at car Dealerships.  All Sales staff in Selling this weekend.

Big Push to get cars sold in 2013.

I would drive the car to the Dealers & park it, and get a Sales Person to provide a Courtesy car or Demonstrator Until Monday.

& If not available, Their Company car/Demonstrator, and let them drive my one with a light coming on until Monday

Or Park my Car on the road outside with a big Sign in it saying

'Buyers Beware, You may be left without a usable car if you shop here.'

But then i dislike greatly the incompetent Dealerships.

The Sales or Finance managers Superb 4x4 would be quite nice to get to drive until Monday,

He/She can take home a Citigo if there is nothing else sitting available

I might have asked the wobble at the end of the phone at ASSIST if they were happy to cover a new engine if this turns serious and a spark plug fires a tip into your engine lunching many expensive parts on the way?

Please be careful and if possible do not drive the car until sorted (would be my advice) even those of us with 'reliable' vRS' accept this is a highly strung little engine.
