Mph/kph

Featured Replies

Just wondering if there is any way of changing the digital speed to mph in a 13 plate roomster.

I generally use the dial but then get confused with the digital display. I'm only learning to drive so need as easy as possible lol

There is no way, and its all down to the EU who say our cars must show MPH and KPH simultaneously. As the main speedo has no KPH display, its displayed as digital instead. On some models this can be worked around by changing the instrument cluster coding in VCDS to Australia, but IIRC this only applies to cars with Maxidot as it alters some settings to KMS.

With the note that I've never even sat in a Roomster, I used to cover up most of the oversized and overbright main beam telltale in 1970s and 80s Fords with a piece of black insulating tape. That approach might work here?

Thanks for the replies. Will just have to get used to it I suppose. It's easy enough in my instructors car as the digital display is above the CD player so I don't need to bother too much with it. But in my roomster it's below the speedometer.

The joys of driving lol

As Mannyo said you can code some cars to think they are in Austrailia.

As they don't have the EU they don't have to have the KPH readout so you get a nice big MPH figure instead.

I know it's possible on the Yeti and Octavia with maxi-dot, but not sure on the Roomster unfortunately.

Yes the car needs maxidot for this to work.

The EU do not state that MPH and KPH have to be shown simultaneously, BUT the car has to be capable of showing both... this can be by the press of a few buttons, which is exactly what can be done when coded to Australia.

Surely if you code the vehicle for Australia that will display kph everywhere?  Haven't they gone completely metric.

Yep..all Aussie cars are in KMS..The big Fords I use are Aussie and although the speedo is MPH all the rest is in metric, so dont think the Aussie VCDS change will be what the OP was wanting

Changing the coding to Australia using VCDS does actually work, but as said above you need to have Maxidot display for this to be of any use.
