  • 'Cow' would have to be saved for something really serious.... say a strawberry one?   Pretty sure if i had seen a red wrapper leave the bag i would have been calling for backup and a helicopter

  • They've got time for this, yet every 5th car on the road (its not far off) has at least one bulb out...

Never seem to pull up the idiots that follow me with their fog lights on though!

vRS DRL's are ridiculous how bright they are.

They bug me and look like Fog Lights and yet i know what they are.

Someone with a vRS following them with its DRL's on, can be excused for thinking they are Fogs on i think.

I wish vRS drivers would put on sidelight & dipped beam if it is anything other than bright daylight.  In drizzle they are a PITA to other drivers,

Even In normal daylight, just running with  the Sidelights on are as bright as many other cars DRL's

These are Standard Sidelights, not even on as the DRL's

& Sidelight and Dipped Beam.

& in the Dark with Half of the Sidelight/DRL unit taped over so to annoy less drivers in the rain.

Hence Roadside Checks.

Pull in drivers and look over the car,  Sidelights, headlights out, Fog Lights on, Worn Tyres, no VED or MOT, Insurance etc.

What is amazing is how many almost brand new cars are driving with lights that are faulty,

that is Including Police cars in my area.

Do they not check them at a start of Shift or before getting in a Police Vehicle any more.

And being Advanced Trained or just to Police Standards will be the reason they do not require to use indicators.

"Before I go, could I have your colleague's badge number please. I don't think my dash camera caught it?"

I dont think theyre as good at driving as theyd like to think.

I saw a police car overtake a car when another car was pulling out of a junction on the right into his path the other day.

Advanced driving they think. School boy error i thought.

 They are human after all.

"I'm telling you you are.".

at that point, if it is said, you know you are possibly dealing with an ar53.

Or it can be someone that is pee1ng off other officers, so they set them up to look stupid,

and the public have to be the one that gives them the training,

it can sometimes quickly get to, "are you telling me my job?."

They are human after all.

They are, but nearly having a head on because of something so very simple. Hardly spotting hazards in an advanced situation.

They should of let me drive that 335d, obviously haha.

I'm sure it must be a pain, but........

........do people have to go on the defensive with the police?

I don't, except traffic police who are just revenue collectors these days.

Playing devil's advocate, again.....

.......they wouldn't collect any revenue if people weren't breaking the law

Clearly in this particular case no law was broken, so they'd have had egg on their face if they'd taken it any further

Would it have been such a hardship just to explain the intricacies of the DRLs on the Fabia vRS?

If approached with a polite attitude and an honest query, then yes I would have responded in an appropriate manner myself. I've dealt with this force before, in fact have a friend who is a traffic officer for them...

I certainly wasn't defensive, anything but and I certainly wasn't going to waste my time explaining the fact that the vehicle meets construction & use legislation.

When you are wrong, you are wrong, no uniform and warrant card can change that when it comes to dealing with the public.

<snip>

A daytime running light is an automotive lighting device on the front of a roadgoing motor vehicle automatically switched on when the vehicle is moving forward, emitting white, yellow, or amber light to increase the conspicuity of the vehicle during daylight conditions.

DRLs don't have to be as bright as the sun - and in the case of the vRS, I can entirely understand how the confusion might arise :)

Unless the person he'd pulled had got scared and taken the ticket when threatened with court.

There's lots of people break the law all the time, but motorists are the easiest to make money from.

Case in point, when my truck got broken into, there was no one available to come and have a look, but there were officers available for two different speed traps within a mile.

The most ridiculous thing is that Skoda sold to the public from 2010 a model without Fog Lights, or the Option of Fog lights,

&

UK Dealers and Skoda litrerature still exsists that says they have Front Fog Lights.

(the DRL's were not even required by Legislation to be fitted when Skoda Designed and started producing the vRS

and still is not now,

but the fitting of Fog Lights for use in Fog are pretty important IMO.)

Some current Brochures and websites do now say LED Day Light Running lights. (Or Daytime)

I guessed there was something else behind it

From where does this strange idea come that money making is a Police priority?

As to the latter point, I suspect that the Police believe that stopping speeding drivers will save more lives and achieve more than the fairly hopeless task of trying to identify who broke into your truck - sad but true :(

Yeah, because mines obviously the only crime that's ever occurred around here apart from traffic offences.

Chadd, where the criminals ride bmx 's, and the only police about are on traffic duty... Go figure

For a while at least 1 police force was operating 'points mean prizes', and officers were gaining.  As shown on TV, but that was stopped.

(just as well it became public, or it might of gone on for longer.)

Now it is possibly 'Points count for Chief Constables & Deputies for prizes', so they set the priority.

Date of article 2005!

Nice and topical then  :D

No idea how topical and if some forces still do the Points mean prizes, without the prizes, just the tick list.

The article linked is as a simple  example, of where Priorities, might or might not apply.

There was a Programme that showed the practice, and they were in 59 Plate Volvos.
