Black vRS alloys on a Monte

Featured Replies

Hi all

I've had a black Monte Carlo on order since the start of January, which I'm very keen to pick up obviously!

I've just spoken to the dealer who has confirmed that my car is in  the UK already which is great news as I wasn't expecting it until early April tbh.

Anyway, my problem is, the dealer has told me that the is a shortage of the black Monte Carlo alloys so they have fitted a set of the black Gigaro alloys instead for me.

Now, I am slightly pleased with that as it'll be slightly different I suppose, but also there's the thought that it isn't an original Monte now if you like. Obviously the Trinity wheels are exclusive to the Monte and i'm thinking that it might lose that exclusivity if you like.

What are peoples thoughts on this? They are nice the Gigaros mind.

Thanks a lot

Dan

  • The dealer is talking absolute tosh. They have blatantly pinched the wheels off your car to go on another Monte. I wouldn't be accepting that at all. The black gigaros are nice but just be aware they

  • Having listened to everything on here, ultimately there is only one resolution

  • Don't think my eyes are deceiving me but they don't look like trinitys on this monte, maybe all montes from now on are going to have the VRS wheels instead (also notice colour coded grille top)

I'd be telling them to sort it out and find a set of the monte wheels as ur ordering a car it should be as spec'd or u can ask for a discount as the car isn't as u ordered it.......if it happened to me I'd be a bit miffed

Well, with a set of Trinity on mine and Gigaros on my dads vRS... I honestly don't think there will be a problem. They look almost exactly the same to the untrained eye, and honestly I prefer the trinity in all black (Gigaros look better with the chrome two-tone).

Black wheels are still black wheels? And if you wanted to swap, I bet there will be someone anywhere willing to swap their trinity for your Gigaros.

Thanks for your replies. I've checked stock of the Trinity alloys at Dordon and they're showing 17 of them so I can't see why they can't just order me a set in. I'm waiting for the salesman to ring me back and I'll ask him, or as said above, knock some money off.

Be careful as Trinity wheels also come in silver to ;)

These were definitely the black ones I checked the part number of, but cheers :-)

First thing I did when I got my Monte was to ditch the alloys, mainly because I thought the OZ's I had in waiting looked better, still have the trinity's with my winters on, not too worried about any damage as I'm going to paint them this summer anyhow.

I spoke to the salesman and the impression I got was that it's those wheels on it and that's it really. I took the chassis number off him to check the spec on ETKA and it lists the Trinitys as being fitted as standard from factory. So now I'm not sure now whether they genuinely fitted the Gigaros from factory or they've just been swapped afterwards like.

Any other opinions from anyone?

Thanks

I'd go with the gigaros - I had a vrs before and I miss those wheels on my new Monty. A much more handsome wheel IMO.

I agree, I like the look of them too! I just worry about losing the look of the Monte a bit. I know if I saw it parked up somewhere I'd say "that Monte Carlo's got vRS wheels on it. It shouldn't have them!" That's my point.

Perhaps I should get out more...

Thanks for your reply btw

It sounds to me that they may have been removed to put on another Monte that may have been suffering from the dreaded left pull.

The car is not standard now with the Gigaros so I'd be wary, a discount or some sort of offer might sweeten the **** up a bit.

That's a good point, cheers. My mate in work has one too (discounted buy through work) and his had another set of alloys for that reason actually, before he picked it up.

Cheers

If the Monte was a true limited edition car, I possibly would want the original spec wheels, but as it isn't I can't see it affecting future values too much

I know when the Mk2 Octavia LE came out most owners would have pleaded for anything but the original wheels

I still don't know what to do tbh, but you may be right yeah. They are a nice set of wheels and they will suit it well I'd imagine. Perhaps I should get them to sign the delivery form or the service book to say that the Trinity's were swapped at factory. Thing is, if ever I needed new alloys, the chassis brings up different wheels. I suppose I'll know what's fitted to it though.

Thanks Brimma

It's up to you what you do but the car is not what is advertised or original spec therefore is not worth what you've agreed to pay or signed for.

What would you do if they said it's come with a red roof but we'll spray it black for you, I know this is unlikely but I wouldn't be accepting it without some kind of recompense.

Do you really think with automated manufacturing that they'd build a car without having the parts in the factory, it sounds like they're pulling you plonker here mate.

I worked at the Nissan factory for over 2 years and if any of the parts were delayed then the build would be delayed as well.

Free wheel upgrade - smashing

Hi Gaz, u certainly have a point and part of me is starting to believe that they're trying to pull a fast one! Maybe I could ask for something else to be included in the deal. Cheers

That's another way of looking at it Pearce! I know it'll look nice with them on too!

Cheers

Good point

Look at parts and see which is the dearer wheel, if it's the Gigaro, then yes, free upgrade

The only thing I would check is the finish...........I can't recall if the Monte is a metallic black, similar to the Black Magic finish of the Monte trim

Compare that with the finish of the black Gigaros, ie whether the Gigaro is a flat gloss black

I did check earlier in work but I can't remember now what the price difference was, if there was any. I'm sure the Trinity alloys are £175 each retail. I'll double check in work tomorrow though.

I really didn't think of that (finish of Gigaro wheel), so thanks Brimma.

Trip to a Skoda dealer tomorrow I think to see if there are any on the forecourt.

Thanks again

Sounds like usual dealer nonsense.......so presuming they are being dishonest here it really isnt on.

I mean why not come clean & tell you the real story..maybe you could have come to an arrangement...maybe you would have said no worries i quite like those wheels anyway....you weren't expecting the car so they could have hung on until they got some more Monte wheels but no no they want the best of both worlds as they also want the sale and car out the door.

I've never heard such nonsense but it really doesnt surprise me.

all that aside...i actually quite like the silver vrs alloys & wouldnt mind seeing what they look like on the Monte.

Just get them to swap the rest of the car for a VRS. Problem solved.

Otherwise, just stick to your guns and refuse the deal. They'll find the wheels if it means losing the deal.

I don't see the fuss, to be honest. How many cars in an enthusiast forum are completely standard? I'm sure you'd have a few Monte owners happy to swap.

You're probably right noggy, unfortunately. I've seen the silver Trinitys on a Monte and they looked nice, but not the Gigaros sorry.

I've no doubt I'll see the car next week and fall in love and that'll be that, but it still doesn't make sense what they're saying at the moment. I'll see what happens during the week.

Thanks Noggy

You might be right Oz. Part of me would prefer the look of the other alloys just to be different to the next Monte, but then I've bought a Monte after all.

You watch, I'll see the car in the flesh and I'll change my mind completely!

It's good to see what other people think and what they would do anyway so thanks.

Cheers Oz

Quick comparison for detail, if not colour

Personally, I prefer the chunkiness of the Gigaro
