One of the main reasons do this conversion and also fit the TT/LCR/S3 Hubs is they have longer brackets to ball joint/wishbones which give the cast wishbone a much better horizontal level even on lowered cars

My Cast Wishbones with castor adjuster bushes

You can see the near horizontal wishbone (and my car is very low)

You can also see the much longer distance the lower ball joint is located on the bottom of the TT hub( the TT HUB is a must as well to get best out of the conversion)

hope this helps folks....

Wow! There's so much involved in this conversion!

Credit to you boys for doing it, thankfully I have a 225 tt so have the bits already, kind of interested in what makes the tt racks 'quick racks'?

Cheers hope you don't mind :)

It depends of how much of  a conversion you are doing. Just the Steering Rack is easy.

But to me you would be missing the whole benefit of what the steering rack and all the other bits bring together that the TT/LCR/S3 and R32 already have which is the Hubs, Wishbones, thicker FARB  and better subframe bushes.

The TT225/S3/LCR/R32 all use the "quick rack" basically a 2.7 turns lock to lock, whereas the VRS the other VAG makes not listed above use a 3.5 turns lock to lock.

Ah right, cheers for that!

Can I make a suggestion that may be useful to you guys?

As you probably know the TT was recalled early days to have tweaks to stop them spinning down autobahns.

One of the changes was the wishbone front bush, changed from a 30mm bush to a 45mm. Which lost loads of steering feel and added some slop!

There's an American company who make Defcons which is an aluminium insert you press into the wishbone and have the 30mm bush fitted to.

There's a guy on the TT forum who makes them in the uk called Cookbots...

Superpro castor adjuster bushes

Defcons

The superpro bushes basically come with a similar centre insert to the defcon's already installed

The supropro are a harder shore rating too - similar overall stiffness to the older smaller bush size

If you compare the two pics though, you'll see the supropro's have offset centres to reposition the front of the wishbone and remove some the extra castor VAG put into the TT, thus greatly reducing understeer

To achieve the same result using the defcon's you'd also need to buy a set of adjustable topmounts

No the defcons are the front bush not the main rear one. The bush inside is the 30mm superpro one not the 45mm fitted in the above.

It does make a difference.

sorry, being a dumbass there

Any chance you've got a superpro bush number for that

Can only find SPF3394K which is the 45mm one

Powerflex PFF85-201 fits that size

yeap I was going to say that....

The defcons are really just a metal sleeve. to insert into a post 2000 cast wishbone to allow a smaller bush to be installed.

With defcons, you return your TT tor similar car chassis to the handling characteristics that Audi later determined were "unsafe" in the hands of ordinary blokes.

Original Audi TT's (cira 2000) had a smaller bush in the wishbone which caused drivers who were not very well equipped to loose the back end on the car.

So post 2000 cars had a wishbone design change with a lager front hole to accept a larger bush that transformed the car to dial out some under steer.

Trying to find a original pre 2001 wishbone is like rocking horse poo, so companies like defcon have produced this sleeve to make your post 2000 one become a pre 2000 one.

as mentioned it seem that other companies now process the sleeve with a bush installed.

Something I will be looking at purchasing me thinks.....

There is not a superpro bush on its own that you can use. You will have to get the defcon sleeve and correct smaller front bush too. They don't  come together as far as I can tell.

JoshH post #5 shows that he knows a uk company that produce the pair together which is what i will follow up on .

Anyone  a group buy???

imo its the wishbones which make the major difference, the tighter rack is a tweak in comparison

Hi Folks Update:

Ref the defcon alternative version of sleeves and bushes

I contacted Paul at Cookbot automotive solutions ref a price and group by reductions, great guy and helpful.

Thanks Josh for Contacts.

Website here:

http://www.cbauto-solutions.co.uk/

This is Paul's response.

"I’ve done bulk buy before for these and have sold many pairs all around the world.   They are priced at £85 posted to forum members including pre fitted super pro bush for the individual or can do them at £80 per pair for 5 or £75 for 10 including postage and the pre fitted super pro bush to individuals.
I can also provide them with out bush, but be aware I have to use a special tool I made to fit these, so it’s unlikely guys would be able to fit the super pro bush on their own.  price for these is £60 posted on an individual price, £55 for 5 or can do them at £50 for 10 posted to the individual.
I also have the SPF 3395k and SPF 3397k rear wishbone bushes in stock if members require other bushes too.  As I’ll also potentially be putting in a big order with Superpro, I can get any other bush people require and pass the savings on. Let me know what you want to do or if you have any further questions. "

So I am up for a set and can set up a group buy in the appropriate section of forum. so to not burn up time on the OP thread here ref his original subject(sorry for the deviation dude).

Would be good to test the water on interest so i can work out if this group buy will be a go..?

Watch  out later for the new group buy thread....

Glad you have something sorted out :)

Hi Bowders1,

Have you fitted the conversion 30mm bushes yet? If so what's your feedback on them?

I'm picking up a LCR subframe/rack/hub set up this weekend and will be fitting it in a couple of months when I get more time (e just had out 2nd child 5 days ago!). I need to get bushes for the arms and stumbled across this thread you set up.

The car isn't going to be tracked, it's my daily commute/family car but currently ticking through the upgrades to make it a nice car and more fun when the chance arises. I'd considered just standard bushes, then I saw on your thread about the castor adjust bushes, do they make a huge difference over standard? I will be fitting some spax coilovers but not going mega low as it still needs to be a family car too.

I also came across the below bushes on eBay by a company called PSB (problem solving bushes). I've never heard of them but they are cheap, unsure if that also means the quality of the but isn't up to scratch:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-AUDI-TT-MK1-98-06-A3-S3-96-03-Front-Wishbone-Rear-Poly-Bushings-147-/171324356151?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27e3ba3637

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A3-S3-TT-MK1-front-wishbone-front-bush-x2-45mm-forged-arm-732-/181393799226?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AAudi%7CModel%3ATT&hash=item2a3be9b83a

If you wouldn't mind, what's your opinion on fitting the following bushes in the LCR cast arms:

Standard OE quality

PSB poly bush set

Super pro kit Poly bush (non castor)

Superpro kit including castor adjust

Superpro castor with 30mm conversion bush

Thanks in advance for and advice,

Cal
