Seat Leon Cupra

Featured Replies

It's been advertised all afternoon whilst I've been watching the BTCC, so I thought I'd spec my order. Nothing fancy - parking sensors, sports pack, dsg, spare wheel and it comes out at just over £33k.

Ouch !

  • I saw that on the BBC site yesterday but forgot to post a link - like you, I was amazed how lightly he got off.The writer of that article should perhaps consult a dictionary regarding the use of 'epon

  • Loved my old leon cupra mk1, and my ibiza cupra mk4. Didn't like the newer leon until the latest 2014 model, love them! But I've got my mk2 octy vRS now and shall hopefully have it for many years :-)

  • Not quite sure how you got to that price. I've just priced a 5dr 280 DSG with EVERY option apart from custom paint and it works out at £32,370 list and £28,285 with discount.   Do the same with a Go

Really? I thought it was the steal of the century given how much better it goes compared to its GTi sibling. Good deal cheaper too given the kit list. Over £3700 off via a broker also bringing a very nicely specced one down to octy VRS rrp - a discount figure VW won't match on the GTi also. :)

Ahh a Leon Cupra,

i wondered, you can pick up a new Ibiza Cupra for a few magic beans.

£33k? Jesus.  I thought it would be £20k max.

I'd want something decent for that.  Seat has no brand image and is the lost brand of the group.

You could buy a very low mileage full warranty Maserati GT V8 from a main dealer for that kind of money!

Always will be a lost brand if thats what theyre charging

The ex Demonstrators will be available cheaply soon enough, like in 3 months or 3,000 miles.

& then for Much Cheapness by another 6 months or so,

I do like them. Iv been in a 300hp 2007 one, and that was pretty good

Under steer central though, if your not careful

I quite like the new Seat designs and styling, but would not spend that much buying into the brand as it is not a strong enough brand and has a confusing sales message.  I roared when someone posted that their wife had a Seat and looked down on his Skoda as being embarrassing (can't remember the thread, sorry).

Buying a Skoda says you demand high quality and will not suffer poor products, but you are intelligent enough not to pay a premium for branding; that you care less what others think as you have a strong enough personality to make your own decisions.

Buying a Seat says you want the Audi quality but can't afford it and have the need for other people not to criticise, so buy into a confused Spanish brand then lose more money than buying the Audi in depreciation.

If you really want one, depreciation could be epic, so buy one in a year or two?

IMO customer's choice...

Skoda: Essentials that work reliably and well. At a reasonable price. Ultimate equipment levels and luxury - Jones monitoring come a poor second.

SEAT: Essentially the same - usually at a higher price point. Generally sportier brand image and "youthful". (No-one mention the the Marbella!!!).

VW, Audi etc. The value added brands. Paying for equipment, refinement, performance and design.

Obviously there are cheaper and more expensive models within each manufacturer's range.

I dont know about paying for equipment on a VW. My mums poverty spec polo has nout on it at all. You even get arm muscles winding the windows.

I took a girl out on it once. To which she commented 'these windows dont go up very fast do they'. To which i replied 'only as fast as you move your arm'. She was blonde.

I didnt see her again. I couldnt live with the day to day pain of her blondness haha.

So what are main differences between the Cupra and FR then?

Never understood it much myself.

I think the fr is like a Monte Carlo fabia. Looks sporty, but a few engine options, non of which are that quick, but good for every day.

The cupra is like the vrs. The fastest model.

I could be wrong there though, iv been struggling to get my head around it for a while now haha

There used to be cupra, and cupra R, with the R being the top model. They then changed this to Cupra and FR, where Cupra is the top model. The Cupra normally has a much more sporty appearance and better engines etc, but sometimes not a huge difference. For example, my old ibiza cupra mk4 had same power output to the FR, but I had the front mount intercooler etc as standard, whereas the FR didn't.

The Cupra is enhanced in many ways - e-diff from the gti pp, bigger brakes, more advanced engine (identicle to what's running in the S3/Golf R), different springs and dampers (sits lower also) and is currently the quickest front wheel drive car around the Ring. Tbh - im guessing that people saying they are the same as the VRS havent actually driven one? For me, it was the surprise drive of the year, feeling every bit as good in the corners as the GTI PP and even more balistic than the Golf R in a straight line. Fantastic hot hatch imo and driven on the same roads, leaves the Octy VRS for dead. :)

I think there is some cross talking.  so nothing to do with Ibiza Cupras

or FR's which come in Petrol & Diesel in the past and FR Edition now that is a 1.4 TSI ACT (cylinder Edition.)

This is about Leon Cupra's 2014 models.

Not older Leon Cupra or FR's,  of which there has been some crackers.

SEAT often had the Vokswagen/Audi Group new technology on first to try it out,

and some fast bargains could be had.

& some SEATS seem to keep the good technology,

while now VW go trying out new technology stuff on paying Customers.

I have driven the latest Golf R/DSG & the Golf GTI PP/DSG on extended loans,

looking forward to getting a Leon Cupra next Thursday for a wee shotty.

Hopefully not too much 95 RON in it, before i put in good Petrol.

I wish Salespeople would stop using the cheapest available in Demonstrators.

The only surprise drive of the year for me was a Mercedes CLA 45 AMG 4Matic.

(FWD/Part time AWD)

So nice to drive and play in.

In a different league altogether from the Golf R or S3.

Do the same with a Golf GTi PP DSG 5 dr and it comes out at £37,555 list and £33,009 with discount and that excludes adding the HD sat nav (just the normal one as fitted to the Leon as standard), so spec. is similar to the Cupra.

Whether the Leon is worth £28,285 or the Golf £33,009 is subject to debate, of course, but the Cupra is £4,724 less and has 50 bhp more, so sounds like a bit of a bargain to me, especially when optioned more carefully.

^^^ saved me typing it! Totally agree with all of that! :)

No 5 door, butt ugly, already a huge fail.

No cross-talking, just trying to help explain where the cupra and FR names came from, that's all.

I understood that.

it was where mention of 'Monte Carlos' came in i meant.

A Fabia with some cosmetic Body Trim and seats and alloys.  Same Drivetrains in Manuals only.

FR models of Seat Ibiza was mostly rather more than just cosmetic enhancements. Engine and gearbox choices were often good. A shame that Skoda never did similar VFM  Mildly Hot versions.

no five door?! Err, yes, there is or I drove something else that had cupra badges all over it!

I post Broadspeed regularly as a quick easy way to see the models and options,

not as a recommendation to where to buy, or dicounts available.

You can save money where a Dealer is happy to sell you one at the same price as Brokers.

Some people are happy to deal in Cash Money.
