Just witnesed one of these shifting and handing awefully well. Slip road off M6 to wigan, its long and has a bend in it. It came past me at a fer rate of notts and took the corner far braver that i could ever do in my octy vrs. It looked standard. Checked the facts and figures 138bhp 250 pound of torque. Even with a remap it would only be on par with a standerd diesel vrs. Anyone drove one? Just for the record it was an observation of another cars pace and no racing of any kind was involved.

So the handling & road holding was good at speed,

because not many cars in the UK are not good for 100 + MPH.

You put your foot down and the car goes, even if standard and with only 138bhp.

We had the same engine in our FRV.  It was surprisingly good at hauling the car around and caught a few people out now and again.  I did drive the Accord when looking for the FRV and as nice as it was I wouldn't have said it was a particularly racy car.  Maybe the driver was wringing every last bit of energy out of the car?

Perhaps he just has more faith in his car. I would imagine your car could do the same if you tried.

When i drove one i thought it was rapid but at the time i had a rover 1.4 8 valve so anything would feel super fast and i was 19. I believe it was hondas first diesel engine

I am interested to know how a car is supposed to look different from a standard one externally if it was just to have a tweaked engine, other than maybe a different tail pipe.

& good tyres,  Upgraded Suspension & brakes, unless the car is actually visibly lower.

Some people like performance modifications & upgrades to be subtle.

With a remap on those your looking at 200bhp. With the torque too you would have a fairly competent machine!

An non vRS octavia, with bigger brakes, mild springs and a set of very good dampers looks very plain.

It will also kill a mapped vRS on slip roads, not because it has more power, but because you can carry more of it and you can corner better.

It's hard to tell, especially when you're both moving.

Probably been remapped.

My previous Civic, with the same engine mapped, would leave my present standard CR vrs in a cloud of soot.

Plus the Accord aint that much heavier than the Civic.

Had a new 8th generation Diesel Civic back in 2006 (?). It was one of the first in the country at the time. Could not believe how fast it was.

Dealer later told me that Honda UK, had to de-tune subsequent/later cars, as it was almost as quick to 60 as the Type R - and that was not good for business.

Having driven both, I had no reason to doubt that logic.

BTW, it had the hardest suspension of any car I had ever owned, great for road-holding, but not for comfort.

Anyone who wants a real street sleeper, should look out for a (very) early "06" diesel Civic.

Can't comment on the ctdi, but my dad's had various accords since the early 90's and whenever I've driven one of his i've always been impressed at their abilities. TBH, very little else to touch them of a similar price - hugely underrated, the the diesels seem to be generally very well regarded.

This one was a 54 reg

Accord is on my list to check out when it's time to change. I quite like them but haven't driven one.

Don't like the Civics.

The estates are huge and feel it. Like trying to park an oil tanker the back is far away.
