DSG clunking!

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Recently I've had a bit of a clunking noise when setting off and it makes no difference whether hot or cold, so I got a friend of mine who used to work for skoda/seat to have a look at the car and he seems to think it's the gear box! And when he was showing me, the gear box actually sounds like there is no oil in there. It sounds horrendous, unfortunately for me, my warranty ran out on the car yesterday and I do not have a clue where I stand. And with it being a bank holiday there's no one I can get in touch with either.

The car is a 2010, 60 plate cave fabia mk2 vrs, and it has only just ticked over 20k miles this morning!

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Ryan

There haven't really been any cases of the gearbox oil vanishing like that. On the other hand, you can never say never plus there's been a recent campaign from VW/Skoda to replace the oil in some DSG boxes, and that would be carried out no matter if under warranty or not so your car could be in for this reason anyway. In any case, I would directly head to a Skoda dealership so they could provide me with a responsible answer to the problem. Then you'll know what's going on and what needs to be done. Should any repair is needed to be carried out, I would be surprised if they refused to do it on the excuse that the warranty expired 2 days ago. Especially if it is a serious one (hopefully not). Let us know. Oh, and don't panic yet.

Thanks for the reply guys, I'll drive the car to my skoda dealer tomorrow and see what they have to go say, hopefully they will look at it with no trouble and let me know. Let's just hope it's not a serious one..

thanks Ryan

Get your case entered in to the Skoda UK Website contact section. Explain your situation / problem and warranty issue being able to communicated in time.

Request a "goodwill" claim and also mention your vehicle Vin No as the Service Campaign / recall on your DSG MAY APPLY ANYWAY. That is oil change from Synthetic to Mineral due to the potential electrical malfunction .

Hope your car has full Skoda Service History as this helps in your claim, but at 20,000 miles it shouldn't be an issue.

They should reply with a Case No. and then you should quote this at all times, builds a case history file for your car.

Thanks very much for that reply, I have done everything you mentioned as above and will be waiting to hear back from them but as it is a bank holiday It probably won't be till tomorrow or even the next day.

Worried as I really don't have the funds for a new gear box :S

Thanks Ryan

Ryan,

No worries ,as they know they currently have DSG Issues, hence the Service Campaign.

Has the car got Full Skoda Stamped service history!! That is important ,as they like to find ways out and make it difficult.

As to your mate showing you the gearbox and his opinion, I would not mention that.

Yes it has got full skoda service history, last one was in January when the car had it's first MOT too.

Keep us up to speed Ryan.

Sorry forgot to mention, checkout Thread "recall dsg" under Fabia mk2 .There is a link on there for checking your Vin No. recall / work required status.

The car went into the garage today, the gearbox oil was changed under the recall even though I never received any notice to say that the car needed this.

The knocking has now gone, they told me this knocking was because my front drivers side wheel was loose, which I don't think can be right as not long ago I had the car wheels off for refurbing and sealing. Anyway all done free of charge by DMkeith in wakefield, very happy with the service :)

It can be exactly that if you didn't recheck the torque after a few hundred miles.

Good to see the 'recall' fixed it.
