what could this be?

Featured Replies

Ive have noticed that if im in manual mode and say from 4th to 5th ot 6th to 7th if i rev say to about 4krevs in gear then change up the gear but with my foot off the accelerator then quickly put it back on the accelerator seems like theres a flat spot and then picks up again? If i change gear in manual and keep my foot on the accelerator it changes smoothly no problem. Its hard to explain. Had recent service and plugs done also. 19000 miles. Anyone else experienced this?

It only does it if i quickly put my foot back on the accelerator??

Does it do the same when the Tuning Box is not fitted?

EDIT.

Why do you want to change 'up a gear' with the foot off the throttle?

Surely when you put your foot back on it wants to drop a gear, or if it goes below 3,500 rpm, gets Super Charger on demand.

Its going to be different is it not keeping on the throttle and changing up manually, you are on the throttle.

Yeah. Ive removed it today and its the same. Im not sure what it is. Its as if the revs have not dipped quickly enough ... im not quite sure.

It seems to be from 4-5k. It doesnt want to change down because im not using kickdown just tapping the accelerator again. Bit like been a manual car off the accelerator then on it again. Its just something ive noticed thats all, and not sure if it should do this or not...? I can drive it all day long and change gear in manual with my foot on the accelerator no problem or by taking my foot off the gas then change gear then back on not so quickly and its fine. Its a bit of strange on. Not sure if im explaining myself properly.

If you are in 'D', it does not require you to Kick Down for the box to change down. It will change down if required.

Sorry, i really am not understanding what you are trying to do.

Im on about when in a manual not D sorry. In manual if i change gear up the gears at say between 4-5k take my foot off the accelerator instead of keeping it on then quickly put back on the accelerator it seems theres too much of a dip in revs and a slightly hesitant to pick up again. Trying to find the best words to describe it haha

Why would you want to do that though?

I can understand going down a gear with your foot off the accelerator, but why up?

Surely itd be a much more seemless power delivery if you kept your foot on the accelerator?

Exactly, that's the whole point of the DSG box anyway, changing gears with your foot on the throttle, doesn't make sense. I also don't think the instant hesitation is something weird. It is a nippy car but it's not a GT-R, it is normal to have moments of not so quick response especially in 5th +  gears. You also have to bear in mind the box adapts to every move you make with your right foot, so when you lift-off it thinks you'll probably cruise at that speed or even slow down hence it doesn't foresee a speed increase and when you re-put your foot on I'm guessing you're catching it by surprise. At least from your description it doesn't sound anything more weird than that.

Lower engine mount flex.

Changed mine and this was eradicated.

I know the feeling described where engine response is very elastic rather than firm

VAG220m from Vibratechnics will sort you out (I bet)

Being in the right gear for the rpm & torque band will sort it out instantly this morning, until any hardware purchases can be made.

Sometimes when driving an Automatic or Semi Automatic it is worth observing how the Engine Management & DSG Programme selects gear,

then if you are changing Manually, see if you are doing better than leaving the gearbox to make the changes.

Cheers for the replys chaps. Its something that i noticed thats all. And i know thats not how it should be driven and @newbie69 thats probably a good way of putting it catching it by suprise. Its as if it hasny had time to let the revs settle in gear so when you quickly hit the accelerator again it sounds a bit weird...
