Premiership football club Manchester United has teamed up with sponsor Apollo Tyres to create its own official branded tyre.

Apollo is the club's 'official tyre partner' and has pitched the new tyre as a budget item, with prices starting from £59.95.

Motorists looking to show-off their allegiance to the Red Devils will be glad to hear that the tyre bears club's crest and 'Manchester United' script on the sidewall, though Apollo hopes it can win over less football obsessed drivers with the relatively low asking price.

Initially the tyre will be launched in a limited range of sizes, with the most popular 16"-18" wheel range likely to be targeted. Larger sizes will become available in the coming months – good news for the club's SUV-loving footballers.

Manchester United Group managing director Richard Arnold said: "Apollo is a leading player in the tyre industry, and its rate of growth and development in new territories make it an attractive partner for the club."

Apollo's involvement with Manchester United isn't limited to being its official tyre supplier. The Indian brand is also constructing football pitches from recycled tyres, with sites planned throughout the UK and Ireland. United's Old Trafford ground is the first to receive the eco treatment

When it goes bald, can you pay an exorbitant sum to have a new tread woven on using bits of rubber from the shoulder? And when they're old and knackered can you sell them to someone in Europe?

Oooh, I best step away from the keyboard right now or I'll be here all night.....

We all know you'd love a set. How funny would it be if you had a mate who supports Liverpool (hypothetically of course not many people support Liverpool) then had a set of those put on his car without him knowing, he probably wouldn't get in the car until they've been changed.
