VRS 1.4 DSG 2010 - 2012

Featured Replies

Hi There,

I have recently just sold my pride and joy kit car and will be looking to replace the fun I had with a VRS, because from what I can see looks like great warm and dry fun to be had.

What kind of issues do they have if any?

I love the idea of the DSG gearbox and it will give almost as fast gear change as my kit car was.

Can't really find any helpful info on Youtube, it seems to be full of ****s selling cars instead of proper car reviews and owners showing off mods, I found a few but mainly car dealers using youtube to sell cars.

The car looks great, I like it in every colour too so I am not fussy about colour, but won't be in a position to buy one until exactly a year from this day I think due to other commitments.

Cheers

Nick

Welcome to the forum.

You best look at the Skoda Fabia MK2 Section.

There are issues with more than 20% of the Mk2 Fabia vRS 1.4 TSI 2010-2012 sold in the UK.  There are 1,800 registered.

http://revotechnik.com/support/technical/14tsi-twincharger-engine-issues

The issue has meant that quite a few cars have had new engines, some cars more than 1.

There is a Service Campaign on the DSG 7 Speed fitted to the Twinchargers and to other VW Models.

That is done free and has the Synthetic Oil replaced with Mineral & a ECU Update done.

Anyway, they can be great cars,  great value and fun.

But you need to have an Extended Warranty if not the original Manufacturers.

&

You need to check the Service & Warranty issues.

Lots of threads in the MK2 Fabia Sections.

Lots of Videos on Youtube,

& many are linked in the Review and Picture section at the top of the Sub Forum.

Have fun trying a Twincharger,  but you need to research the car you are buying.

Having had a replacement engine is not a Problem, if it has a Warranty.

PS

There is a meet up of Briskoda Members with MK1 & MK2 Fabia vRS at Santa Pod next May.

There is a pinned post in the Mk2 Fabia Section.

Topic moved

Also to mention, later cars have a revised engine (look for CTHE on a sticker on the pillar on the drivers door) that has proved so far to be much more reliable.

The 20% figure is also uncorroborated AFAIK.

It was 20% of people on here who did a pole... Bearing in mind people come on forums to seek a fix for problems, the real number is probably less :)

No the 20% figure comes from the 1,800 CAVE engine vRS from 2010-2012 in the UK and Breather Pipe & ECU Updates,

& engines rebuilt, replaced and replaced engines replaced, in the first 3 years and the now 4 /12 years.

*The actual figure is greater than 20% now in the past 12 months.*

So ask Skoda / VW on the Warranty claim numbers on the actions required.

& some early CTHE from Late 2012 - 2013 have been Replaced, and some are failing now and will require Warranty Claims.

So Skoda, VW, Seat & Audi  & others might think it is an Internet overblown issue.

PLEASE ANYONE JUST ASK VW THE NUMBERS, ASK IN WRITING.

Maybe 'pearce_jj' can ask them.

Then you will have corroborated numbers.

Then the Customer Services & Dealership Employees can not play '3 Monkeys',

& VW can stop treating Customers & Buyers like Mushrooms.

Regarding stickers on cars.

Yes they are put on in the Factory.

There are members here that own cars with 2 Engines already replaced by Skoda / VW.

These are CAVE engines, and the stickers are showing CAVE engines.

But when New Stickers do not come out with New or Refurbished Engines from VW,

then the Original Stickers will be on the car.

& the Engine Block has the Factory Stickers.

(or where a Technician does not change the Stickers or Engine Numbers, or update the Database,

be that the Skoda, VW, Seat or Audi, database, or make changes by informing the DVLA if there are Engine Number Changes.)

As to Replacement Engine VIN.  we are still in a funny place with that.

New Engines that were in Stock, Engines from the Factory New or REfurbished,

& Owners & Members being told that there is 'Nothing to do',,,  The Dealer has done it,  Skoda have Done it.

Your V5 & VIN matches etc.

Like everything with Skoda / VW, trust them, do not worry,

A huge Corporation like them have only the Customers best interests at the centre of how the behave.

PS.

Anyone with a CTHE from Late 2012 - 2014 might want to ask Skoda / VW about them.

Are the 2014 built cars Engine Internals the same as those built in 2012-2013.?

Is the MAP that some early CTHE engine cars running,  the same as now on the later cars.

?

Do some Early CTHE require a Software / ECU Update?

One thing I would say about the (2014) CTHE; the driving experience does not match the charts that I have seen to date. The power really comes in a rush at 5k and pulls hard right to the red line. So maybe the output below 5k has been tamed somewhat for whatever reason.

Re asking VW, I don't think any corporation would ever publish field failure rates - unless required to do so.

We will have to go with Un-corroborated then.

But VW know the figures because the require them for their Annual Reports.

& then anyone taking legal action against them can get the numbers and have.

Because now that cars are Out of Warranty, & Independent Examiners are being Requested to Investigate,

the Design, Manufacturing and Quality Control issues are coming to light.

The sooner someone takes a UK or EU Civil Court or Small Claims action against the VWG the better.

We will then maybe see VW trying to defend the Actions they have taken.

Which really are just 'Paying out what they get forced to'.

Lots of Good Cars out their with good engines,

but buyer beware,  because many in the Trade are out of Manufacturers Warranty and no Longer Serviced at VWG Franchised Workshops,

& even if the where or are,

might fail at any mileage.

VW have never changed the Spark Plug Service Schedule or Guidelines,

& this can be an item that can mean 'End of Life' to Engines that Skoda Dealers have been making out had no Underlying Issues.

Just Blown out of proportion on the Internet.

DSG issues,  TDI Engines,  Twinchargers,  it just goes on with VW.

Water leaks into vehicles, water leaking out of engines, pulling left, pulling right.

Go pull yourself off, we do not care.  'They all do that', as the Dealerships tell you.

Hear, See & Say nothing.  the Volkswagen Way.

Never admit to anything unless forced to by the Law or Legislators.

A change of attitude from the Management, more honesty,  might mean they have a better reputation,

well deserved, and a more profitable business.

One thing I would say about the (2014) CTHE; the driving experience does not match the charts that I have seen to date. The power really comes in a rush at 5k and pulls hard right to the red line. So maybe the output below 5k has been tamed somewhat for whatever reason.

Re asking VW, I don't think any corporation would ever publish field failure rates - unless required to do so.

there is deffo a kick at 5k, but then if you change up at 7k, it drops to 5k on the next gear, so good power on full chat :) I'm not sure they have detuned it below those revs, I think they have given it "a bit more" at 5k ;)

regardless, its definatley a different map to the CAVE engine!

Same Engine (& map), same weight almost, it is heavier.

Some how when the CTHE was fitted Seat announced same power but higher possible speeds and lower emissions,

they dropped it a VED class to match the VW & Audi Twinchargers.

(badge engineering maybe, it cost more then and now.)

& is the Speed and Emissions so different for heavier cars that come on 215/40 R17 tyres

Higher Speeds, Lower Emissions & better Average Fuel Consuptions.

rather than the cheaper car & estate that are lighter and come on 205/40 R 17 tyres?

she also says improved suspension ;) we KNOW the fabia had this upgrade too, as you need a different polybush set to the earlier ones :)
