XDS Question?

Featured Replies

Angry does not come into it, just talking about inconsiderate or thoughtless drivers.

You know what the Brake lights are for i take it.

To let someone behind know you are applying the brakes or stopped.

Well when they are behind you, they know you are stopped.

as when,

there is Fog and they are behind you stopped, they know it is foggy, and they are behind you.

You are a young driver, had recent driving tests and you are a bike rider,

its odd that you think it is just a laughing matter.

The subject was not Fabia lights was it, just Brake Lights.

The issue really becomes important in poor weather and drizzle, and the High Level Brake light,

LED bulbs etc.

for different vehicles or bike riders.

Have you found out when you drive the car the way you do, that it will benefit from having XDS. ?

Some of us that have it as standard Disable it where they can,

or set it at the lowest setting, because they do not like how it functions.

Not only on Track but in other Spirited driving.

Nipping at your brakes, & overheating Fluid, pads & discs.

I think I may have it, the 'spirited driving' has shown that the inside wheel (with traction off) will spin in hard cornering. I was thinking of lessening the interference from the car rather than increasing it.

But soo many others do it. Youll literally never stop everyone from doing it.

I know what you're saying George, but you're massively outnumbered by the people who do it. Its always gonna be like that. Theres millions and millions that do it.

If others bothered to have a consideration, i would join in and use the handbrake. But so many use the footbrake that most dont even think about it anymore.

And i dont have much choice on the bike. I dont have a handbrake lol.

I agree on the fogs. I turn those off as soon as somebody catches up with me.

You are not out numbered when you are stopped because of Road Works or an Accident etc.

One vehicle is directly in front and you might be 5 minutes or 1 hour behind them,

& they just keep the foot on the brake.

You can be 2 vehicles stopped at a Set of lights because there is a Traffic Works escorted Convoy,

which is quite common, or Level Crossings.

Mostly it is no an issue,

some cars like Volvo XC90, XC 60 and Range Rovers are an issue,

these Brake LIghts are quite something.

No idea where the EU ever thought they were a good safety idea to Type Approve.

(i was more than 10 miles behind the Police XC90 on the A720, and for over 1 hour. Edinburgh City Bypass.)

You can not change their habits, but you might change them as you follow them with no place else to go.

Id use the handbrake if im there for a while. I can move my leg then lol.

Generally around here we arent stopped for that long. Its not congested much and only really stop for a minute or so max.

You know those threads that go off topic............

*cough.

Sorry ;) haha.

Gutted, I'm normally the one who sends them off topic :(

So does your Greenline Yeti have XDS,

or just ESP, ABS & Traction Control ?    Any idea yet?

Right, gone to the ABS contol module -> coding -> coding helper and got this

XDS2.jpg

So is it just a case of checking the Bit 3 checkbox (not showing on picture, but it is there) saving and exiting?

Give me chance to get to someone with a VCDS ;)

Whats a handbrake????????..................

I have auto hold & the electronic handbrake on my mk7 Golf estate........................................very good, the way they respond to locking/releasing is similar to the way I drive anyway, so I have had very little adaption to do!

Got to remember to press the handbrake button down & off to unlock before I turn the ignition off in the garage. This allows me to then push the car out if need be just to wash it, otherwise I have to insert key & turn ignition on & do the same to unlock the rear brakes.

Don't look at my brake lights if you don't want to be dazzled, as for full beaming me I'd just slow to a crawl, that usually does the job lol.

It is when the crawl comes to a halt, then a prolonged halt, and a obvious prolonged stop that the problem occurs usually.

Some just sit there with your attitude.  They can just not look if they the 3 Brake lights on are dazzling them.

If you crawl along with a foot on the brake & your Brake lights on or Brake & rear Fog light / s on, or as some do leave them on in nose to tail crawls,

then that is your your right & kind of lets others know what kind of person they are following.

Edited by goneoffSKi

It shows what kinda person is following if they get soo upset they feel the need to use full beam tbf.

But lets not go into that ;).

'Nail on head',  i have the T-Shirt.

Flash someone to remind them of something they might not be aware of.

?

Why do vehicles have a Flash function on the Headlights?

Why do cars have Hand Brakes, that can be applied with the car still running, or during stop / start ?

It shows what kinda person is following if they get soo upset they feel the need to use full beam tbf.

It shows what kind of thoughtless person is in front of you if they 'forget' to take their foot off the brake and use the handbrake...

Believe me, we are not looking at your brake lights, they are too bright and dazzling us!

However, as we need to keep our eyes on the road ahead (for signal changes, pedestrians, etc.), where do you suggest we look?

But isn't it great how a thread about XDS degenerates into a 'discussion' about who's wrong - the person with their foot on the brake in queueing traffic at night or the person behind them who flashes them to try to remind them they are dazzling them!

Do make a fuss over nothin lol

So, how about that XDS eh, great piece of technology! (Attempt to steward the conversation back on topic). :)

What is so great about it if you are going to Track your car and disable it then.

Are you missing it just now at the 60mph NSL on twisty roads,

ie   Have you slid off the road on a corner yet?

i was thinking this not sure it would be much use for the asda car park roundabout :D

I just wondered,

Engine Remap on a diesel,

new wheels / tyres,

 Brakes Upgraded,

Coil Overs fitted,

it must go and stop better than a Standard Diesel Greenline,

so is it going on the track, or is XDS required for the Asda car park roundabout.

It's being built to embarrass Mk2 Fabia VRS owners :)

They can embarrass them selves i think.

So is the intention to have a faster one, than a standard or mapped and modified one ?

Getting better handling from the SUV than the old persons shopping cart should be easy to get.

Have fun with it.

Well that won't happen anytime soon.

I think people like yourself underestimate the nippyness of the 1.4tsi and the DSG box mated together. Porblomatic or not, it is a great combo for point and shoot motoring.

Going back on topic, the XDS is ok, I personally never liked it as when you feel it kick in, it feels too artifitial. When pushed it will cook your brakes for good measure too!
